How to Lay Out A Room Design On Paper

rearranged furniture

We’re doing a completely new room design right now in our home study, and I’m having so much fun, I have to share.  You can follow the behind-the-scenes here on Petit Elefant’s Instagram, but here’s the real skivvy on the new design. The study is the first room you see when you come in our front door, and so far it’s been a bit of a hodgepodge of furniture and random design.  You know how that happens sometimes?  A room…

Mid-Century Modern Family Room House Tour

house tour

My family room is on tour today, just for you.  It’s been a little while since I’ve shared a room tour, any home decor, really, so I thought I’d show you a peek into my house.  It has a little mid-century modern flair, using inexpensive furniture and decor, and it’s one of my favorite rooms in my house – a little slice of heaven. Our house is an early 1990’s builders kit that the previous owners built from scratch.  There…

Summer Sandals I’m Loving Right Now

Summer Sandals I'm Loving

Right now we need to talk about summer sandals.  I know it’s only March, but we all need to start our shoe shopping ASAP-like.  Mostly because it’s March and it’s ugly outside and I’m dying to go on a good Spring Break trip, but I’ll probably be doing yard work and laundry instead. It’s a pretty glamorous life I lead.   Do you have your eye on anything special right now?  I’m super loving high heeled sandals, that little peep…

Best Book Ever About Hipster Kids

my imaginary well dressed daughters

Today, a review of the best book ever. A couple of years ago my friend Tiffany Beveridge wrote a book based on her popular Pinterest board, called How to Quinoa: Life Lessons From My Imaginary Well-Dressed Daughter. I’d been following Tiffany’s Pinterest board with absolute delight, being the lover of snark that I am, and maybe even harassed her a little bit about putting together a book with all the delightful romps of Quinoa, her imaginary well-dressed toddler. Tiffany is…

I Found Joy At The Dump

Last month I was in Kenya. Nestled along the borders of Somalia, Ethiopia, Sudan, Uganda, and Tanzania, I find this part of East Africa to be inhabited by some of the friendliest people I’ve ever met. It’s as if smiles are a permanent part of their facial features. It’s beautiful, really. On last month’s excursion to this land of kindness, I went to a dump in Nakuru. I wasn’t scavenging for some trash to treasure pieces to craft a Pinterest…

It’s St. Patrick’s Day, so perhaps your wearing a bit o’ green or downing a Guinness or enjoying some Irish soda bread and corned beef. Happy St. Patrick’s Day to you.
