I promise I won’t post any more about my excitement over yesterday’s events. Just one last post. My kids were so excited about the whole affair and wanted to celebrate, so we decided to make an Inauguration Cake. It was whipped up with whatever I had in the pantry, & the kids were thrilled with the results. We had cake, went ice skating, and thanked our lucky stars we live in the country we do. {some icing may have made…

beautifully made bed.
There are few things that make me happier than freshly laundered sheets and a tidy, made-up bed. There’s nothing fancy about it {except maybe the high thread count sheets-I’m a complete devotee, they’re worth every penny} just a few pillows, a duvet, and some IKEA bedding. But it has such a nicely pulled together look doesn’t it? Looking at it right now makes me want to crawl on top with a good book and a cup of cocoa. Mmmmmm. I’m…

chalkboard dining room.
Spotted this on Design*Sponge today. I love the unconventional-ness of chalkboard paint in a dining room. I’ve thought many many times about painting a wall outside the kids’ bedrooms in chalkboard paint, but haven’t because I picture chalk dust as a constant companion on the carpet. Has anyone tried it and loved it? Or tried it and hated it? I love the concept. In theory. {via Design*Sponge}.
america’s song on oprah.
I’m not much of an Oprah watcher, but I tuned in yesterday for the tail end of her Inauguration Special and I wasn’t disappointed. I was especially moved by the compilation of America’s Song which you can download today for free. Watch it here. http://play.dipdive.com/p/984 If you want to download America’s Song be sure to hurry, it’s only on her site for 24 hours.

This project, engaging the next generation of voters, is pretty inspiring. Check it out with your kids today. var gaJsHost = (("https:" == document.location.protocol) ? inauguration 2009.
I am so excited about tomorrow I can barely contain myself. I can’t believe the history that’s being made, and am itching to watch the coverage on t.v. tomorrow. The official 2009 inauguration website has a kids page so your little-ish ones can get in on all the excitement too. I’ve shown P and she’s now hovering over my shoulder waiting to get started. What are you planning to do tomorrow in celebration? A special breakfast, or treat in the…

weekly fitness tip: make exercise a part of your day.
I have a friend who is a workout devotee. She is the most faithful exerciser I’ve ever known, ever. I asked her once to give me some tips, some motivational inspiration, something, anything to help me get a move on. She told me this: “It’s just a part of my day, like feeding my kids, brushing my teeth, taking a shower. It’s just not optional.” I asked her if she loved it, if it is her favorite thing to do…
