embarrassing pioneer woman story {starring me}.

Pioneer Woman is coming to town. Yes, that Pioneer Woman. I’m very excited to go with a gaggle of girlfriends {and Precocious} to her book signing tonight in S.L.C. I don’t own the cookbook yet but I hear it’s phenomenal and I’m dying to get my hands on it, and to hang out with Ree again. I met/accosted her at BlogHer this year. I’m sure she doesn’t remember, unless she talks about it in therapy every week. Remember how I…

10 Tips for a Disneyland Vacation.

I went to Disneyland when I was nine. And I was very disappointed, I have to be honest. I guess I was so used to Canada’s Wonderland, which is an amusement park as opposed to a theme park. I have since married an avid Disneyland fan (who has educated me on the difference between an amusement park and a theme park) and we always knew that someday, we’d make it out to Disneyland together. We recently found my old journal…

vampire diaries vs. sixteen candles.

I won’t get too pop-culture-ey on you but I’ll flat-out admit the fact that I’m watching the melodramatic, high school drama The Vampire Diaries on the CW {thanks a lot Erin}. And would you like to know what occurred to me as I was watching last week’s episode on Hulu? The love interest/boyfriend/Edward wannabe Stefan? He looks startlingly like Jake Ryan aka Michael Schoeffling. You know, the love interest from the classic John Hughes 80’s movie Sixteen Candles. Then again,…

don’t stop believin’ {glee is my happy place}.

Go ahead, judge away. GLEE is the best thing on TV right now and I for one, just can’t get enough {thanks to all my twitter friends for the recommendation}. Here’s a little something to make your weekend that much happier. It just makes me want to get up and dance. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gx9tX1RTNiM]

what to do in new york city.

new york city weekend

I’m back and I’m exhausted. I had such a great time in New York though, and I have such fun things to share. I didn’t do much touristy stuff {no Statue of Liberty trip, no Broadway show} but I saw everything I wanted to see, ate everything I wanted to eat {and then some}, and generally spent way too much money at NYC thrift stores. I thought I’d compose a list of my personal favorite Top 10 list of things…

e.l.f. makeup party.

I hosted an e.l.f. makeup party for some of my nearest and dearest over the weekend. Oh, the good times we had. Mix together some cupcakes from Cupcake Chic {to die for}, flavored sparkling water {oh my!}, strawberries, a whole lot of makeup, & some of my best friends. Good, good times. I broke it up into several stations: eyes, lips, face {get it, get it?}, nails, and eyebrows. It’s imperative to have an eyebrow station if you’re doing makeup;…

weekend at catalina island.

I’ve wanted to go to Catalina island for a long time. On a good day you can see its outline from Ruby’s in Huntington Beach, and it’s always held a bit of mystique and grandeur for me, so when I was invited to visit along with Marie and Ciaran’s families by the Santa Catalina Island company, I didn’t hesitate to say yes. I may have even said, *heck yes!*. We took the Catalina Express bright and early out of a…

SeaWorld San Diego.

Victor already posted about P’s unbelievable experience of feeding Shamu at SeaWorld. It was crazy cool, and I wish they would open it up to choosing parents. I mean I have dreams too, right? Obviously so does C. They involve throwing himself into the open tank of water with Killer Whales but still, a boy can dream. SeaWorld is about more than Shamu. I loved the interaction we all had with the animals {I got to pet a dolphin!} above…

family sheepherd.

Sometime in the early days of the 20th, one of the railroads in Utah and Wyoming was attempting to raise some funds and started selling off some of their land. That’s when some not-to-distant relatives of Allison purchased some land (lots of it) and began to run sheep there during the summer months, taking them down to the high deserts for the winter months. Up in this high country is where Allison’s father B grew up, having his own horse…
