my favorite pair of heels

high heels

A few months ago I was accidentally shopping at Nordstrom with my husband {hey, it happens!} when we came across a women’s shoe sale.  It’s not pretty finding a shoe sale you weren’t planning to find.  Oops! There goes the kids’ college tuition! I found these Jessica Simpson nude heels for $45.  They were normally twice that, and I fell fast and hard for these babies.  I’ve fought the nude trend forever, thinking it’s just not a flattering shade for…

how to shave with conditioner

aveda

Did you know you can shave with conditioner?  It’s true. When I travel I don’t bother bringing shaving cream with me on the plane, it’s way too much hassle for one girl to deal with on a regular basis.  Instead I use whatever cheap-o hotel conditioner is waiting for me when I arrive.  I’m not sure exactly what it is in the conditioner that makes it right for shaving, {some sort of moisturizing goodness} but it works like magic. Slather…

summer swim suits 2011

summer swim suits 2011

DownEast sent me an adorable swim suit to take with me to Europe.  Viktor pointed out that people in Europe don’t obsess over their bodies like Americans, and that maybe it was time I invest in a bikini to wear to the bath houses in Budapest. No thank you very much. Just to sweeten the deal a little, I added a ruffly swim skirt on top. He won’t be excited about that, not at all. Over sized sunglasses, cute beach…

how to remove your makeup with olive oil

I’m really in love with olive oil,  I think it’s the 8th natural wonder of the world.  In addition to cooking with olive oil I use it for moisturizer, homemade bath bombs, homemade sugar scrub, natural deep hair conditioner, and yes I use it to remove my makeup. It seems really counter-intuitive to put oil on your face, but I promise it’s amazing.

I’m in love with purple everything

purple everything

I’m in love with purple everything right now.  While it’s not the color of the moment {coral is whether it’s a good color on me or not. it isn’t}, I still love everything about it.  Purple gives just the right amount of punch to an outfit. HP sent me a Mini laptop in Lavender to use while I blog in Europe over the next month and I’m kind of in love with it.  Enough that I made an inspiration board…

bad fashion week part 7

thick soles

It was all fun and games in the 90’s when we were being ironically sad and hopeless, wearing baggy flannel and worrying about our collegiate and suburban futures, but the gig is up.  Thick soled shoes are for people who legitimately need to wear them for health reasons {maybe you have one leg that’s shorter than the other?}. Here’s the situation.  Unlike platforms and other high heeled shoes that actually make your bum look smaller, your legs look longer, and…

Kate & William’s royal wedding style

kate and wills

I don’t know if you’ve heard, but there’s a wedding at Westminster Abbey today.  Some kid named William is marrying a pretty girl named Kate Middleton.  Oh, my bad.  By the time you read this her name will be ‘Catherine’.  Kind of like how Tom Cruise calls Katie Holmes ‘Kate’. Much more sophisticated that way. This Kate has some pretty sassy style, and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t care what she wore to her wedding.  I’m going…
