book pick: twilight saga.

In honor of Valentine’s Day I’m going to share my romantic book pick. For those of you who have yet to be initiated into the vampiring world of Stephenie Meyer, allow me. Let me throw a disclaimer out there before I start this book {series} review: I am not a fan of fantasy or vampires. I don’t like the X-Men or Batman movies {boo, hiss I know} and I have never been a Marvel comic book reader. But you don’t…

tree by kerri lee.

A little while ago my son C decided to drink his entire bottle of antibiotics and was hospitalized overnight. After a long charcoal and I.V. filled day in the Emergency Room, C was deemed sick enough to spend the night at the hospital. My parents came and did a little pinch hitting for me so I could catch a break and go get a bite to eat in the hospital cafeteria. Instead of eating, I did the logical thing any…

wallcandy arts.

chalkboard tree. $56.{via wallcandy arts} Wallcandy Arts is another ingenious company offering artistic re-positionable wall decorations that won’t permanently affect the walls. The chalkboard tree above is actually a chalkboard {with 13 little chalkboard birds} on which little notes and doodles can be written. So neat. Each wallcandy arts kit comes with several pieces which can be rearranged at a moments notice; so when your teen aged budding Monet gets bored he can make a mural on the ceiling.

unique kid art.

National Badger. $16. {5″ Elephant} Christine Heinitz is a fellow mom who wasn’t satisfied with the assortment of kid art available to the general public {read: she didn’t want to pay college tuition for quality nursery artwork} so she decided to create her own and National Badger was born. Choose from a gallery of cool animals {or commission your own} available in three sizes: 5″, 7″, or 10″. Kudos to the clever moms of the world.

not quite what I was planning.

not quite what I was planning book

I was listening to N.P.R. the other day in the car with my husband when I heard this amazing segment called Six-Word Memoirs. It’s a brilliant storytelling idea from Smith Magazine {an online storytelling community} spurred by the brief six-word story once penned by Ernest Hemingway: “For Sale: baby shoes, never worn.” Is it possible to write your own memoir in six words? You’d be surprised at how much you can learn about a person based from such a small…

old school sesame street

sesame street dvd

Look what I found today over at drool.icio.us. {via the NY Times}: Old School 1969-1974 $39.98 {via theSesame Street Store.} Watching these old episodes of Sesame Street makes me nostalgic for the golden days of my youth. When my daughter was younger I used to buy up old VHS copies from half.com of the early Sesame Street episodes, {and o.k. they were really mostly for me} but she went crazy for them as well. They just don’t make them like…

what to cook for dinner ideas.

I recently used a search engine to look for dinner ideas online and serendipitously came across this site. Jane, a mother and graphic designer, has the eye of an artist so not only does she give you dinner ideas for an entire week {bless you Jane!} she also posts beautiful photos of food to keep you inspired. Her menus are far more creative than I can manage on my own and are definitely worth checking out on a regular basis….

crayon hearts.

{via Martha Stewart Living}. This is a project I have done with my daughter P every year for Valentine’s since she was about 3. It’s so much fun to watch the wax melt {her absolute favorite part} and it makes me feel better about using up all those odds-and-ends crayons. We save them up all year just for this project. The hearts look so beautiful when they’re done. And don’t feel restricted to putting them up on windows, I hang…

Easy Eco-Friendliness

I had a moment this past week (and only one moment unfortunately) to curl up with January’s Martha Stewart Living. I loved the recycled t-shirt project they featured, where you can turn old t-shirts into reusable shopping bags. My husband has a whole drawer full of t-shirts he no longer wears, and this project seems like it will take a lot less time than making a “t-shirts of my bachelorhood” commemorative quilt.
