Organizing my books by color

books

Some time ago I saw photos online of home libraries organized by color. Naturally, I assumed people who organize their books by color have an abundance of free time in which to accomplish such a task. I was wrong. It’s okay to be wrong once in a while, as long as you own up to your mistakes. In the space of a very short afternoon I was able to organize all my bookshelves by color. I mean, I organize my…

What You Should Be Buying At The $1 Store Part I

modeling clay

I shop at the Dollar Store as often as I shop at the grocery store.  I really do.  And I regularly have friends ask me what on earth it is I continue to buy in there.  So I thought it would be fun to do a series sharing with you exactly what it is I’m shoveling into my cart at the Dollar Store. First of all, the trick in shopping the Dollar Store is knowing what stuff costs elsewhere.  There’s…

How To Clean Hard Water Stains

lemonade

If you haven’t found Pinterest yet, we need to have a little talk.  From me to you, it’s time to get on that train.  Pinterest is like all your inspiration boards in one place, plus everyone else’s inspiration boards, and you can pin to your heart’s content. great summer beach read

ann brashares

Let’s talk about one of my favorite authors for a minute.  Ann Brashares.  She wrote the series The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, which I loved.  In fact if you ask me, I think the best contemporary literature is found in the YA section. I stumbled upon her first foray into adult literature at the library one random day, and it’s now one of my favorite books. The Last Summer of You and Me is beautiful.  Brashares’ writing has a…

House where time stood still

record player

I recently read an article about this house in New Zealand that’s blowing my mind. It was built and completely decorated + furnished right after World War II for a navy man’s mother and sister, never to be lived in. Ever. All the original furnishings are still intact: dishes, record player + records, light fixtures, original parquet floors. I’m honestly melting a little inside just thinking about it.  Can you even imagine?  This little treasure of mid-century modern is just…

Unique jewelry storage solution

collections

It’s no secret that I have a lot of jewelry.  Perhaps too much {is there such a thing?}.  I grab cheap baubles wherever I go and periodically add a nice piece or two along the way.  Basically, my jewelry cup runneth over. I’ve been storing most of my jewelry on top of my dresser in a cool wooden box I got thrifting a couple years ago, and it’s been great.  But I wanted something a little more organized.  Because I’m…
