You dear readers are brimming with wonderful insight. Thanks for being so helpful and for starting such a great “conversation.” As far as the shower in question goes, I think it will be a smashing success. In this case I think I made the right call to do a custom invite-by-email. For the guest of honor and a few of her guests that aren’t keen on email, I did a cute paper invitation. It’s similar in appearance to the electronic…

running in the rain.
I’m training for something that I can’t really talk about yet, but am crazy excited to be doing. Crazy excited and just plain crazy all at the same time. But it involves running, lots and lots of running. I needed to go for a run the other day but the weather weather was really crummy; someone on Twitter dared me to go anyway, and I did. I took a picture so I could show you just how drenched I got….

BOOYAH! by Olivia
Hello, everyone! This is Alma here. I feel like I’ve been away so long! I’m so excited to announce a great product I’ve helped to develop that is being sent to press! Around the beginning of September, I was contacted by a businessman who came across my portfolio about doing the illustrations for a children’s card game that his daughter Olivia invented. We talked through the game, through potential categories, and a couple months later, the game is ready for…

hoodie costumes
Great ideas for cute halloween costumes using basic hoodies and some embellishments–many of which you probably have accumulated in your craft drawer. From Martha Stewart. Double sided tape and fabric glue? I could totally do that. Practical, simple, and maybe even re-usable! little red riding hood and the big bad wolf bat and shark
informal etiquette survey
I recently offered eagerly to host a baby shower for my sweet neighbor; the young and very excited mommy-to-be provided a guest list of nearly 50 people. Sure, that’s more than I expected but it’s do-able, though rather limiting budget-wise. I’m thrilled to be the hostess, but I’ve been faced with some tricky etiquette as a result. I turn to you fair readers for your gracious input, as we all come from different realms and perspectives. 1. To e-vite or…

recipe for kids halloween spider treats.
I made these treats with the kids last week, and I’m happy to report a} we had a really fun time making them b} some spiders actually made it past production c] that’s rare, we usually eat them all in the making Here’s what you’ll need to get started: A couple amendments before we get too far: the almond butter wasn’t sticky enough so I substituted peanut butter, and the powdered sugar is unnecessary. But we’ll get to that later….

thank you.
Thanks everyone for the kind words about Calvin yesterday. It ended up being a lovely day in its own way. My friend and her family planted a beautiful flowering Lilac tree at the cemetery next to Calvin’s headstone in the wee hours of the fading light. It was beautiful and quiet, a tribute in its own right. Friends of Calvin left little tributes on his headstone throughout the day; his grave was littered with notes of well wishes, teddy bears,…

in memory of calvin.
One year ago today I received an awful phone call, the kind of phone call that happens in movies but never in real life. One of my closest girlfriends had been in a tragic car accident and her oldest son Calvin was dead. He was almost 14. It hurts now even thinking about it. It’s not one of those things you ever really get over, you just keep on going about life anyway. So today’s post is all about Calvin….

play-doh.
You know how when Nie Nie was on Oprah and the other mom was talking about how Play-Doh made her want to pull her hair out? I was on the couch going: *Noooo! I live for Play-Doh!* If I can’t get down and dirty playing with the kids once in a while, all the toilet scrubbing and homework checking I’m doing is all for naught. We’re a little partial to the Play-Doh Ice Cream Shoppe at our house right now….
