awesome toys for kids.

awesome toys to buy

We took a trip to California a couple weeks ago, and aside from a TV in the car {best invention yet.  period.} our main source of entertainment for 12 hours {each way} was some toys from B. These toys are smart, well designed, pretty, durable, and totally created with kids in mind. My kids went nuts for the beads.  They’re all shapes, sizes, and colors and you can make rings, bracelets, necklaces, whatever your heart desires.  We literally played with…

cute father’s day gift ideas.

What are you doing for Father’s Day this weekend?  Any fabulous BBQ plans?  Viktor took Precocious on a cattle drive in Wyoming so I’m off the hook for Father’s Day. Wait.  A cattle drive?  We don’t own cattle.  But Viktor’s friend does!  So they’re off playing cowboys and me and Charming will probably eat cold cereal in bed Sunday morning.  Woot. The rest of you are probably celebrating Father’s Day though, so I’m going to leave you some great links…

homemade bubble recipe for kids.

My mom used to make a great homemade bubble recipe growing up, one that made for enormous life sized bubbles.  I figured it was about time I replicated the recipe and made a day of bubble fun for my kids.  It’s so easy it hurts. Here are the ingredients for your Homemade Bubble Recipe: 1 cup of grease cutting dish-washing liquid 10 cups of water 3 tablespoons of glycerin {available at drug stores} Three ingredients.  You can so do this. …

summer’s out: bags for kids

This year on the last day of school for my kids, I surprised them with bags filled to the brim with summer fun.  Each kid got a bag with color coordinated goodies inside.  Green for Charming, Pink {& Yellow} for Precocious.  I filled the bags with all the fun things I never buy them at the store: bubblegum, Cheetos, gummy worms, pool noodles, pool toys, sand toys, glitter, bubbles, sidewalk chalk, beach balls. I surprised them both when they came…

how not to take family photos.

We went to California last week on a family vacation, and naturally we took a lot of family photos while we were there.  The only problem?  The kids were a nightmare for all the photos.  They’re over the fact that mama has a nice Canon camera and don’t want to sit still for even one nice family photo.  You want to see? I want to take this opportunity to announce my retirement from parenthood. The end.

how to: make a pringles can carrying case.

I’m sure it’s occurred to you at some point or another that Pringles cans are useful beyond their ability to live up to the line, *Once you pop the top, you can’t stop*.  I figured out a way to make these cans do a little multitasking for me by making them into carrying cases for my children. Round up the goodies your kids will want to put in their traveling carrying cases, and measure to see if they’ll all fit. …

easy way to volunteer in your community.

I’ve looked for ways to volunteer with my kids in our community for years.  It’s a really difficult prospect logistically because kids are a liability frankly, you can’t take them with you if you’re building a house for Habitat For Humanity.  It’s something that has really bothered me, this dearth of volunteering opportunities with children, because I’m anxious to teach my kids about service, selflessness, give them a chance to look outside their own luxurious lives for a minute and…

Child Hunger Ends Here part 3

You know how I’ve been talking about my partnership with ConAgra Foods on the Child Hunger Ends Here Neighborhood Rally campaign? It’s almost over. And I want to know if you got involved somehow in your own neighborhood. Today I received a plastic bag in the mail to donate canned food through the post office. That’s a start. Some of my fellow blogging friends have been hosting rallies of their own across the country, raising money one party at a…

preschool graduate.

Charming graduated from preschool today. He starts Kindergarten in the Fall. *sigh* My baby. Even though he tried to kill me when I was pregnant with him, he’s made a swift recovery. This kid popped out thrilled about life. Completely unruffled by toil and trouble. Happy to be alive. Charming, even. It’s going to be a long, cold, hard Winter while my baby’s at school. But I’ll have to manage. Somehow.
