update from new york city.

I’m hanging in New York City today. Sometimes I wonder why I don’t live here. Cold Diet Dr. Pepper on every corner, girls handing out Maybelline mascara by the bucket in Times Square…

wait.

WHAT?

I was in a cab yesterday, headed to the Upper East Side with my cabbie talking a mile a minute about Kadafi’s U.N. debut when we passed by Times Square, where I saw a human mascara walking around. Hordes of girls followed the mascara costume around handing out Maybelline’s. Come on, that’s MY mascara. I leaned out the window and yelled

*Over Here! Over heeeere! I’m out of mascara! I love you Maybelline, I’ll follow you to the ends of the earth!*

The sweet little interns just smiled and waved. For a minute or two I literally debated leaving my luggage in the taxi and making a run for the mascara. And then my senses returned and I realized that leaving my luggage, filled to the brim with hundreds and hundreds of dollars worth of M.A.C. makeup in the car with the cabbie to make a grab for $5 mascara? Not a good idea.

In other news I’m having an amazing time. I love this city, especially in the Fall.

I got to hang with these fun {and I do mean fun} ladies at an awesome restaurant called Vynl {in Hell’s Kitchen} the other night.

Vynl is where the hipsters hang. There are themed bathrooms, one of which was *Elvis*, with tile wall mosaics and all.

I love this city.

oh how fun! you really are livin' the dream baby!

  2. Petit Elefant :

    Jill,

Indeed. Which reminds me of the Timbaland song and the lyrics: Livin the dream. Funny.

  3. Jill :

and for the record, i too would have thought about ditching the cab for free mascara…

have a great time in nyc…from the looks of it, that shouldn't be too hard :)

  4. Petit Elefant :

    Jill,

Haha. Sad, right? I'm still a little heartbroken. Free Maybelline? Be still my heart.

Will have fun, and think of you. :)

  5. KJ :

please rewind to the MAC makeup part? A suitcase full of it? SHARE! And please tell Robin Miller I'm crazy about her. One of her recipes came to my rescue this week.

  6. likeschocolate :

Yeah the idea of New York always sounds great until the reality of trying to get around with children. No thanks! I tried the subway once with three children. Ugh!

  7. Tiffany :

NO. WAY. Vynl is my favorite. I drink a lot of diet coke in hopes of having to pee twice there. Those bathrooms are the best.

  8. Petit Elefant :

    KJ,

That's just how much M.A.C. makeup I carry around with me when I travel. Not kidding.

Robin Miller was lovely, gracious, and FUNNY.

    likeschocolate,

Yeah, the thought of hauling three kids on the subway makes me sweat a little. A lot actually.

    Tiffany,

Dolly and Cher were locked so I had to use Elvis. My friend did pee twice though, just to see both women in tile.

    Donna,

Oh the Sephora's on every block, *swoony sigh*.

  9. Donna :

You NEED to move here. So we can be bff, and hit up every Sephora in the city. There's like 10 or more of them…

  10. Liz :

Ha! Kristin, Casey and I were walking in Time Square Thursday afternoon after the Ninja Launch Event, and stopped to grab our free Mascara, and had our picture taken with the "human" mascara! It was funny, but we did have the honor of having our photo displayed on one of the jumbotron screens in Time Square. :-)

  11. Petit Elefant :

    Liz,

Oh, I'm totally jealous about the mascara! Not that I can't spend the $5 at home, but it just seemed so gratuitous that they were handing them out 5 feet away and I couldn't get my hands on some….

  12. Kage :

So come live here. I have been here for 7 years and have no plans to leave.

  13. Petit Elefant :

    Kage,

Don't think I haven't thought about it. It would be really hard for me to give up my house though. And my quarter acre yard. A fun trade though, right?

  14. Sarahviz :

It was a pleasure to meet you – make sure you look me up if you're ever back in Boston!

  15. Petit Elefant :

    Trenches of Mommyhood,

It was totally fun to hang, can't wait to to it again. And I might just take you up on your Boston offer. :)
