sea glass collection.

I have a weakness for sea glass. I’ve been collecting it since I was a teenager and serendipitously stumbled upon my first piece while beach combing in Monterey Bay, California. Want to see my first piece ever?

How cute is it that I found a heart? It was love at first sight.

Do you know about sea glass? People look at me sideways when I tell them I collect it in little jars all around my house. Sea glass is actual glass that has washed ashore after being tumbled and polished by the ocean.

It’s beautiful, and unique. And each piece in my collection has come one at a time, painstakingly collected on beaches across the west coast. I love it. It makes me happy. It reminds me of the ocean, of beach combing, of my children running across the sand yelping into the salty air.

It’s my happy place.

It's very pretty! I love it as well, however in our home it is stones…
I couldn't tell you which one is which, but every stone I collect has a meaning!
The first one came from my husband & I's 1st date…
Sitting on the swings in a park running the stones through our fingers, talking for hours.
The last one my 1st daughters 1st trip to the ocean!
    AMAZING <3

Its amazing that you posted about sea glass today!

I spent all day yesterday on a few beaches with my daughters (17 and 24) collecting pieces of sea glass.

My eldest is going to make jewelry; she’s a silversmith.

We ended up at a beach called Glass Beach, but it was after dark so my girls went down and collected glass by the light of their cell phones lol Glass Beach was literally covered in sea glass; my daughters had pockets full!

    Annie,

Is it near San Francisco? I read about Glass Beach in MSL a few years ago and have been dying to go since!

I completely understand your love for sea glass. Whenever I am on a beach anywhere, I search for sea glass. Always hunting for that rare and elusive piece of blue sea glass.

Gorgeous – I assume, then, you’ve read the book Sea Glass by Anita Shreve? If not, you must.
