t-shirt reconstruction

baby gowns
My husband has a [huge] collection of concert t-shirts, from Garth Brooks to Page & Plant to U2. They currently reside in a plastic storage bin, in a closet, and have been there our entire marriage. He doesn’t wear them, but won’t part with them. Finally, thanks to the clearly talented mama behind  This Mama Makes Stuff, I’ve found a very cool solution:  Infant nightgowns. Very cool for the following reasons:

1. infant gowns are among my favorite baby things, especially in the summer
2. these have a definite “hip” factor going for them above and beyond animals and trucks
3. it’s great to up-cycle sentimental but useless items into something functional
4. we get to pass along the nostalgia to another generation
now I just need to learn how to sew…or convince someone else to do it for me. anybody wanna sew a dozen or so infant gowns?

Great idea!! I have cut up all my worn out Threadless shirts and I plan on making a baby quilt out of them. It will basically be the hippest baby quilt ever.

(Word verification: “dollar”: What you save by reusing old clothing.)

I love the way it’s done so that it actually looks hip and not super pathetic. Not that I’ve seen any of those. ;)

Hey thanks for the shout out! Just as a warning, it takes some practice to hem the curved neck edges of this little gown. So try it out on your least favorite shirts first before you cut up the good stuff.

    Happy Sewing!
