My laundry room is no different than any other laundry room in the country, in that most of the time I’d love for it to just disappear. Poof! Absorb itself right back into the atmosphere from whence it came, never to harass me again.
The laundry room really isn’t terrible in and of itself, but the muck and mud, swim gear, random tools, shoes from people who don’t even live here, in addition to the shoes of those who do, clutter around the debris that should actually live in a laundry room: the piles dirty clothes + baskets of clean clothes waiting to be folded.
The worst offender of the place was Swim Corner (the opposite of the serene and always cheerful Pooh Corner). My kids are on a competitive swim team, and swim 5-6 days a week, after school and sometimes in the morning. It’s great, but there’s a tremendous amount of gear involved with swim, times 2 kids, and it seems to multiply and have swim gear babies on the regular.
The solution?
(it’s always the solution in our house)
BINS. Plastic stacking storage bins.
I bought 3 stacking Rubbermaid® bins from their new Rubbermaid® All Access™ organization line at Home Depot
It didn’t take much to make a big difference.
Here’s the before photo of Swim Corner:
Random shoes, a bin full of mish-mosh swim gear, cat good, a baseball mitt (no one even plays baseball in this house), two fire extinguishers (always be prepared, it’s the Boy Scout motto), work boots for my husband, a knitting bag (hung on the rack) next to a bow and arrow, and a tie for my son.
Because all those things belong together in the laundry room, yes?
No.
Here, is the after photo, wherein life for this OCD gal feels a whole lot happier.
We took away the main bin full of nonsense, added a striped rug, and hung the swim parkas and swim backpacks where they belong. The Rubbermaid® bins stack so nicely on one another, with clear front panels so I can see what’s what. Each kid has their own swim bin, and the extra one is for random stuff like baseball mitts. These organizers are the size small, just one size up from the x-small bins, (which happen to be perfection for organizing a closet full of shoes) and are just right to organize a small space like a pantry, craft space, makeup closet, or random swim paraphernalia.
I feel better already.
Open up the possibilities of easy access with Rubbermaid® All Access™ Organizers. The All Access™ line features a clear drop-down door so you can easily see and retrieve the items you want, even when they are stacked! Visit your local Home Depot to see why organization just got easier!
