Maternity Shopping

Last week, my husband Mike surprised me with a brand new maternity outfit. What’s great about the outfit is that I can fit in it now even though I’m not showing, but it also has a lot of room to rapidly expand. And what’s even better is that it’s from Target, where I like to buy most of my clothing because I’m practical like that.

Here’s the outfit that he bought me:

The next day I went to Target myself to see if there were any other clothes that I could stock up on, but I have to say that Mike actually bought me pretty much the only two items I would have bought myself. I was a little disappointed. (It’s also annoying that the maternity section seems to run into the Plus Sizes section without a clear delineation between the two; I wish that they were just a little more separate so that I could clearly see which displays were specifically for maternity.) But I went online and found at least three more outfits that I wouldn’t mind buying myself:
I’m the type of girl who finds a shirt that she loves and then buys it in as many colors as possible. Oh, and I have never owned a pair of gaucho pants but I’ve always wanted to. Question: Are they technically out of style now, or is it okay to buy some gaucho pants?

Here’s a simple, classy black dress. And it looks like it could be comfy. Maybe have this in time for Mike’s company Christmas party?

This would be a cute combo, and maybe I’d bust it out later in the summer when I actually will put on jeans again. I don’t like the way shorts look on me, so basically during the summer I mainly rely on knee-length skirts as my staple. But once things cool down a little, an outfit like this could be nice.

Do you have other favorite spots to go maternity shopping? I popped into an Old Navy with a maternity section, but unless I want to wear a tube top, they really didn’t have anything that appealed to me. I’ll try online.

And I simply can’t resist sharing this, so here goes. My friend went to Mimi Maternity and asked them about their strict return policy (any items older than three days can’t be returned). The girl said, “Well, if that wasn’t our policy, then all the women who had miscarriages would try to come back and return their clothes.” So wow. I mean, I’m sure that’s not “official” company policy, but just the fact that a girl here said it means that I will never set foot in that store.

I LOVE that outfit that Mike bought you! And all of your picks are super cute!

As for the gaucho pants – buy them! In every color! You won’t regret it.

I found myself especially wearing pants like that in the summer because I was never comfortable in shorts. I wore flowy skirts all the time too. They were both very breezy and cool.

And the pants and skirts transitioned me well after the baby too- when things still really aren’t where they should be….

I had great luck with Old Navy maternity but I bought everything online. We don’t have maternity in Old Navy locally but everything fit great that I bought online. Also check out Ann Taylor Maternity. They are a little pricey but I’ve caught some good sales on there.

Aahhh, isn’t that Mimi Maternity girl sweet? I’d have given her the worst verbal bashing of her life. Their clothes are also WAY too expensive. I really like Ann Taylor Loft maternity stuff, but have to buy it on sale. I can’t make myself pay full price. They are also doing a giveaway online right now.

I have those trouser jeans from Target. They were awesome at first. But I outgrew them fast–like a month after I began to show. I figure they’ll be good transition pants after delivery before I fit into regular clothes again. But just thought I’d throw that tidbit in…
