Soon after little O was born, while we were still in the hospital, Mike started singing “Octopus’s Garden” to him, and it just seemed to fit. This has now become a special song that we associate with our son. In fact, I even had Mike paint an octopus’s garden on my cast that I have as I’m recovering from foot surgery.
I ran into a little trouble in the beginning however. I couldn’t quite remember all the lyrics to the song, in the order that they’re sung. So I’d pull the song up on my iPhone and make sure that I was singing it right! It then occurred to me that I should print up the lyrics, frame them, and put them next to my rocking chair so that I always have them handy, and we have a way to commemorate little O’s special song.
Now I’d like to do the same for anyone else who’d like to have a keepsake of a special lullaby. I’ve created a listing on Etsy for custom lullaby orders! I think that this would be a great addition to any nursery, or that it would make an affordable, unique gift.

These are darling! I might have to order one for C.
How sweet. I love that octopus!
These are beautiful – what a lovely idea. :)
So fun! And what a fabulous idea. :)
you are brilliant
These are wonderful! Thanks for sharing.
I would have gone with “Louie, Louie.”
I hope that these songs are in the public domain and not owned by Disney or something like that.
Love it!!
Such a cool idea! I wanted to do something similar with a poem & why my kids got their name (I CAN'T sing). I'll pass this around!
This is great. I came up with a special lullaby/story for my daughter using her name when she was first born and this is a darling way to treasure it. Thanks!
This is awesome. I love little things like this that help to personalize a place.
oh, i love these! i’ve been making lullaby mix cd’s as baby gifts and this would be such a great addition — i just don’t know how to pick one favorite lullaby! (would you mind if i mention this on my wee little blog?)
Tara,
Of course, feel free to write about this, I would love it!
