living green.

For some time we’ve had a list of green living projects to do, and this sumer we checked two off the list:

  • a successful vegetable garden
  • an outdoor clothesline.

The garden was smooth sailing. We started out with some fail-safe plants: carrots, lettuce, tomatoes, and pole peas, all of which produced a bountiful crop throughout the summer. Next year we’ll add even more to the garden; I’m thinking broccoli, cauliflower, rhubarb, cucumbers. Any other ideas?

Crispy. Crunchy. Deliciousness.

Fresh. Juicy. Tangy.

The clothesline was easy enough. V bought two lengths of heavy duty coated wire and strung it between the kids play equipment and the fence. I’m not only saving energy by drying clothes outside, I’m also cutting down on our utility bill and thoroughly enjoying myself in the process; it’s really quite relaxing. And there are few things in the world that smell better than fresh laundry off the line.

Like you, I have once again joined the ranks of clothesline hangers; I LOVE to watch them blowing in the breeze and collect them at the end of the day. Not to mention not having to run the dryer! It’s great, isn’t it?

Zucchini and squash and pumpkins! That is what else you must plant next year. Carrots are a little difficult where we live–but the others are not and you get a GREAT harvest. Pumpkins need lots of room (i’m finding out i thought i had lots..not true!) but they are WAY fun for kids to see their pumpkins and it makes the growing season last even longer!!
