timpanogos storytelling festival

In large part because of my mother, my earliest memories include books. I was immersed in books from the word go. Three of my four sisters are/were librarians. I was a librarian in college, but that’s a story for another day. My sister-in-law is a master librarian. In fact almost every memory I have has a book memory associated with it. Do you know what I mean by that?

This summer while driving down the coast of California for nearly a month, I was pretty stressed. I was planning SocialLuxe on the road, managing a three week family road trip, and making sure the cat was fed and the lawn watered at home. My coping mechanism for stress is to read really great escapist literature. This is why I have an addiction to various fashion magazines and light novels such as those written by Meg Cabot. Meg, can you hear me? Iloveyou. She’s one of those people I’ll stalk until we’re besties.

I read every single one of Meg’s books while we drove down the coast. It’s a good thing she writes as fast as she does or I might have been out of distraction reading. My vacation memories then are not only tinged with fabulously swank hotels and the best aquarium in North America, but of Meg Cabot. It’s a happy thing.

My point? It’s the weekend of the annual Timpanogos Storytelling Festival. In fact it’s the 20th anniversary of the festival, which makes me feel pretty old because I remember the year it started. My mom had just left her job at this library, where she had a hand in helping establish the festival. So it makes me happy and proud to attend.
{The boys lounging on the grass waiting for the stories to begin.}

Never mind the fact that the storytellers are gifted beyond measure. Last night I laughed {like a hyena} and cried in equal measure. P thought she was going to wet herself. It was all around magical and I can’t wait to go back tonight.

Bill Lepp? Ohmyheavens. Funny man.

We met him briefly on our way out to the car after the show. Much cooler to P than meeting a Hollywood *celebrity*, thank heaven for that.

Even my Überserious father had a great time. I’m sorry mom, I had to post it. I apologize. There are so few photos of dad looking like an ape out there. Please don’t un-invite me to Sunday dinner.

The kids had so much fun they’re begging to go back right now please. And not just because of the candy bribery from Grammy.

If you’re in the neighborhood tickets are still available. It will be the most fun you have all weekend, I promise.

    Booshy,

    We all ate the Nerds, I won't lie. C's just the accomplice because he's holding them in the photo.

    KJ,

    Next year, you should come. It was delightful.

  5. Petit Elefant :

    Robertsons,

    South America? Why am I so confused right now? At the library or at my parents house? Either could be true frankly. The 80's were a weird time.
