Hello, friends! I’ve missed connecting with you this summer while I’ve been hanging out with my kids, living life in the slow lane. So, let’s catch up.

First of all, I can’t believe the summer is over. It flew by in a flurry of swim meets for my son, first-time jobs for my daughter, (life-guarding and babysitting) and lots of naps for me. And now it’s almost September and the garden is waning and the sunset is coming faster every day. *sigh*

We were so grateful for the summer this year. High School is so intense, (I don’t know how I’d forgotten this) I rarely saw my Sofie girl last year. She’s so busy with percussion, band, orchestra, swim team and AP classes, on top of life, that I just missed her during the school year. Summer was so nice to just chill together once in awhile, to snuggle up on the couch and watch Gilmore Girls together.
– – PAUSE – –
Sofie and I are re-watching Gilmore Girls (all SEVEN seasons) in preparation for the revival of Gilmore Girls coming in November, and may I just say? Watching a show with a close mother-daughter relationship, especially one as quirky as that of Lorelai and Rory Gilmore, with my quirky girl and our quirky relationship, has been nothing short of delightful. We’ve had so much fun watching this show together this summer, I can’t even tell you.

Anyhoo.
Aside from Gilmore Girls and swim meets, (so many swim meets) our summer was pretty chill. We took a vacation to Southern California in July where we did nothing but play in the ocean and sit on beach for a solid week, which was so glorious and so life-affirming. You’ll be happy to know my longtime fantasy of owning a beach house is still strong, but in the interim of my beach-house-less fantasies, I sure do love visiting the beach.
Then I spent half of August watching the Olympics like it was my job, sitting on the couch eating Creamies, following all the athlete stories with rapt attention, and sobbing in all the right places. I’m super obsessed with everything Olympics, and can’t WAIT to watch the Paralympics in a couple of weeks, this time with less Creamies and more hot tea. Maybe. I make no promises when it comes to ice cream.
And now that the kids have gone back to school, (bless heaven and alllll the saints) my house is finally somewhat clean for more than 32 minutes in a row, and I’m not constantly being pulled in all the regular parental directions, I’m back at regular blogging. I’ve been taking huge breaks the last two summers to spend my quickly dwindling years with my babies at home, making family memories, and I don’t regret it for a minute. But I do miss you, which is an added benefit of taking little breaks from blogging. It makes me realize how much I miss writing, and the relationships I have with so many of you because of this blog. Thank you for that. Thank you for reading the last NINE (!!!!) years of my life, and for being a regular part of my life. I’m so excited to jump back in with you again.
I hope you had a wonderful summer. Do tell me about it, I’d love to hear! And welcome to fall.
