To a lot of people, spring means “Spring Cleaning,” so then we start to see images of watering lawns and dusting shelves – but I think a more important kind of cleaning is sometimes over looked: yourself. The most vital thing for us to take care of is our own skin and bone house. I confess that for me, winter always involves a kind of winter coat (unfortunately, I don’t mean a pea-coat, or cute neon Northface – I mean a warming fatty layer – the kind a bear develops for hibernation). So whether you are trying to get rid of your sweater-body and move towards the swimsuit body, or you simply want to feel refreshed like the blooming trees; this homemade detox ought to do the trick.
You will need:
- 6 slices of cucumber
- A lemon or a lime (or both)
- 1 tbsp. grated Ginger
- 5-8 Mint leaves
- 1 tbsp. honey
- water (duh)
Instructions:
- Squeeze the lemon/lime juice into your bottle. (I like to add a few extra slices of lemon for flavor and for color.)
- Slice and add the cucumber slices. Tip: the thinner the cucumber slices, the stronger their flavor.
- Grate or finely slice the ginger then add it to your bottle. The ginger flavor can be pretty strong, but it is the most important ingredient because ginger boosts your metabolism and does about a million other awesome things (reduces pain and inflammation, helps relieve headaches and cramps, stimulates circulation, and reduces intestinal gas)
- Add the mint leaves for more flavor.
- Now add the water, it should be approximately 300-400 ml, but you can use more or less depending on how strong you want it.
- Add honey after adding the water and stir it all up. Your detox water is complete!

This homemade detox water is my simple way of welcoming spring, giving my body a refresh, and reviving my senses. Enjoy!
