Remember how I’m moving Fit Tip Monday to Fit Tip Thursday? Well, here we are. And thank you for joining me.
Today’s fit tip was inspired by my 2-mile run last week. I haven’t been since, I really need to go, and I’m trying to remember how I got motivated last week in the first place.
Tip: It’s all about the music.
At least it is for me. And the weird thing? I can only exercise to hip hop or rap. What’s up with that? Here’s my playlist for a 5k. No judging. What’s on your iPod?
- The Power: Snap!
- The Way I Are: Timbaland
- Gwen Stefani: Hollaback Girl
- ‘Bout It: Young Joc
- Show Me the Money: Petey Pablo
- Promiscuous Girl: Nelly Furtado And Timbaland
- Fergalicious: Fergie
- Let’s Get it Started: Black Eyed Peas
- Ain’t Cha: Clipse featuring Roscoe P. Goldchain
- Fighter: Christina Aguilera
- We Run This: Missy Elliott

i agree, it’s all about good music when I run too. i like most of the songs you listed, will have to check out the rest. i think I’m going to go run now. (after i finish chewing the choco covered pretzel Kade just shoved in my mouth) thanks for the help to get moving!
Every time I run I think, “why the heck am I doing this? I hate running” And then I finish and I think, “That was great!” So I go and do it again and again… It’s a horrible cycle.
The right music mix is ESSENTIAL to a good workout. You’re right on. There are certain bands (that I listen to) that lend themselves to a good workout:
Any RAC remix
Most Junior Boys
The hood internet’s Alla La Limit remix
All Cut Copy
Vampire Weekend for some light-hearted jogging
Justice: particularly the song DVNO
Chromeo
The Cool Kids
Ratatat
Nat,
Oh, it’s a good thing we don’t have choc covered pretzels, they’d be all gone by now.
Melissapher,
Ooh, thanks for the good song ideas, keep them coming!
Amanda,
It is a horrible cycle, but I’m kind of addicted to it.
the BEST run song is “Pump It” by the Black Eyed Peas. When that song comes on I force myself to step it up, just for the duration of that song, and I run to the beat. It’s tough, but I always feel so good when that song is over. I also like “Beat It” by Fall Out Boy with John Mayer.
Emily,
Pump it is actually on my playlist, a little farther down. Thanks for the Fall Out Boy suggestion, I’ll have to find it!
Oh! How could I forget to put Furtado on my running playlist, will do right now :) The twilight soundtrack is really good to run to too.
Vanessa,
True, you gotta have Furtado. Twilight, absolutely. There’s a Radiohead song that isn’t on it but was at the end of the movie. Gets me going every time. 15 step{s?} Radiohead.
I like to have “I want to Break Free” by Queen on my workout mix…I’m not sure why, but I love it.
KJ,
That song is on my summertime playlist. It’s a fantastic song.
