I don’t know where you live but where I live, it’s summertime, Will Smith style. I live for warm weather, pool time, dipping my toes in the ocean, hot sunny days outside and pedicured toes in the sand. The trick with all this hot weather business is keeping your cool, at least a little with sunscreen, iced drinks, cool mists, sunhats, sunglasses, the works. But I don’t want to get carried away and miss out on all the good stuff by sitting under an umbrella in full-body sun armor, the best part of the summer is the SUN.
I’ve made a DIY mist for beach + pool to keep everyone cool this summer. A little something-something to save face in the sun. Literally.
DIY mist for beach + pool
- 1-2 green tea bags
- 1-2 cups cold, cold water
- steep green tea in cold water for 2 hours
- add ice
- put in spray bottle
- keep cool
What, how easy is that? So easy your mom could do it. Your mom *invented* mist. Your mom likes mist. Your mom … Stuff. Whatever, this DIY mist will do a few things your mom can’t do:
- spray antioxidants straight onto your face, take that oxidants!
- cool you off
- refresh you
- repair sun damage
- make you look smart

Green tea is GREAT for oily skin as well. I’m 34 and have the complexion of a teenager going thru puberty … totally sucks. Take a green tea bag and put it in any kind of container. Add just enough hot water to moisten the tea inside and rub the tea bag all over your face. Careful though – if any of the liquid drops on your clothing it will stain (I just lean over the sink a bit). Let that dry on your face afterwards.
You could also use a hot cloth on your face to open your pores a bit and let all those natural anti-oxidants seep in. It helps with my acne a bit as well. About twice a month I’ll empty a couple of bags into my blender and get the tea chopped up. Then I’ll add a bit of water to that to make a paste to put on my entire face while I’m in the bath.
My skin is a nightmare too, and it’s true green tea is amazing.
