I love the creative birthday presents my kids get once in a while from their friends. Last year P got all the ingredients necessary to make cookies including: Ziploc baggie with sugar cookie mix, an apron, chef hat, wooden spoons, frosting, and cookie cutters. It was her favorite present. We started thinking of fun things that were *outside the box* just a bit, to give as gifts for all the parties throughout the school year. The craft box is my favorite.
Take a box and fill it to the brim with crafts. It can be a specific craft {beading, scrapbooking} or a hodge podge of crafty accessories like this one. What kid wouldn’t love to get a box like this? We used what we had on hand but it should definitely cost less than $5 if bought at the store. Most of what’s seen here came from the dollar store, in mass quantities.
Cheap + Creative = Birthday Win.
Great idea! I would have loved that as a kid!
i LOVE this! what a fun & fabulous gift. definitely one i don't have to worry about someone else showing up at the party with!
I was reading your blog while my five-year-old was sitting next to me. He loved it! I had to wait while he examined the picture and pointed out everything in the box.
Wonderful idea! It was obviously a hit around here. Can't wait to make one of my own.
Thanks for the idea!
My kids would go nuts if they got a birthday gift like this!
also very cute assembled in a clear jar with a lid. great for so many ages!
Awesome ideas, for a girl. Got any ideas for boy gifts? My kids friends aren't so into crafts. We're more apt to buy a Ez-Queezy Oven.
oh what fun! the possibilities!!
I agree. I've always made these:

Hobby Lobby sells plain wooden lazy susan type pencil caddies which I fill with markers, pencils and crayons that I stock up on when WalMart sells school supplies for 25 cents. Then I paint them and put the child's name on it. It makes me feel better than handing over something that is sure to be returned to Target!
Sorry, I don't know how to link a picture. Maybe this?

Tiffany,
I would STILL love this, so what does that say about me?
Neva,
Thank you!
kelly,
I seriously HATE showing up with the same gift every other kid has. Personal pet peeve.
Mrs. Langeland,
My kids had a hard time not grabbing up the supplies while I was snapping photos. So glad your 5-year-old loved them!
Lizzie,
Mine too. ME too.
KJ,
Oh, now how cute are YOU? glass jar indeed.
Donna,
For a boy? A stick. Multiple sticks? C actually enjoys crafts in short bursts. If all else fails? Nerf guns are always a hit.
amberlee,
seriously, don't you love it?!
Aimee,
I'm one of those sad souls who'd be thrilled with office supplies. Sad, but true.
Breeders Digest,
Those are awesome! Love how permanent they are, made out of wood.
Love this idea…
Oops, got so caught up in your awesome blog almost forgot to tell you- You've been awarded! http://www.geeneva.blogspot.com
So cute! When my sister was little her favorite Christmas present ever was a box of office supplies (stapler, post-its, pens, paper clips, etc) so she could play "office" !!
