children’s bathroom remodel.

Shortly after C was born we gutted the second bathroom upstairs. We needed to renovate, bring the bathroom into the 21st century. A little more functional. In fact we just wanted function, period.

You realize C just turned 5. FIVE. This bathroom has been a sore spot in our lives for several years, and finally, finally, FINALLY it is almost done.

Victor is pretty handy with a tile saw, I’ll give him that. In fact, I can’t really think of anything Victor isn’t good at. Keeping his opinions to himself, perhaps. He isn’t capable of that.

I digress. Look! The bathroom!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank IKEA for inexpensive, contemporary lighting.

Home Depot also deserves a shout out: for being open late, coaching us through the tough spots, and making tile available to the poor man. And woman.

Victor, you had quite a vision. The tub + the tile at the end? I like where you’re headed with this.

I love this little touch around the shower handles. Makes the tile feel extra fancy.

My favorite part though is the tiny tiles on the ceiling. Those things were a beast to get up, grout, wash, seal. Beastly beautiful things.

It’s almost finished. We’re ready for the wainscot, toilet, and pedestal sink.

For now, enjoy the photos. If you’ll excuse me, I have some cleaning up to do.

  1. KJ :

looks fantastic. I'm kicking myself for letting the plumbing guy talk me out of a pedestal sink in our basement bath. can't wait to see your finished project!

  2. complykated :

    kj:

the pedestal was pretty much the only option; the bathroom is tiny tiny.

    complykated:

seriously, the ceiling kind of seals the deal doesn't it?

    whimsical:

    IKEA trip? yes?

    donna:

this is why i'm avoiding walks with you. sleeeeepy.

    evonne:

  6. Naomi :

Could Victor please come over here and finish ours when he's done? Because I have a sinking feeling Bob isn't ever going to do ours. I took some pictures of the kids brushing their teeth and was startled by how trashy it looked with the broken tiles (from installing our new window) in the background…

  7. Sarah :

I love the detailing around the faucet, etc. What a great talent Victor has.

  8. Sam Jo :

    The tile is beautiful!!!

  9. Jenny :

I love the ceiling tiles. A lot. You just highlighted my fear of moving into a house we need or would want to fix up. It would take us five years to do a bathroom and during that time I'd be a freaking out mess. Way to keep it together!

    Naomi,

Yes, I'd be happy to rent Victor out for the weekend. Yikes, that doesn't sound so great does it?

    Sarah,

The detailing is kind of awesome, isn't it? He came up with the whole thing himself, clever man.

    Diego,

    Thank you!

    Jenny,

No seriously, it's a lot of fun. Especially being able to do what you want, specifically in each room. I love it. When my house isn't trashed.
