Child Hunger Ends Here part 3

You know how I’ve been talking about my partnership with ConAgra Foods on the Child Hunger Ends Here Neighborhood Rally campaign? It’s almost over. And I want to know if you got involved somehow in your own neighborhood. Today I received a plastic bag in the mail to donate canned food through the post office. That’s a start.

Some of my fellow blogging friends have been hosting rallies of their own across the country, raising money one party at a time to donate to their communities. There’s still time if you want to get involved!

About this time of year I start having garage sales, one after the other, to clean out all the accumulated Winter clutter. If you were to do the same and donate the proceeds {or part of the proceeds} to Child Hunger Ends Here, we could put a small dent in the hunger problem in our local communities.

My favorite part about the whole campaign is that all the money raised locally and donated online stays in your community. So the kids in your neighborhood could theoretically be benefiting from your yard sale, lemonade stand, or bake sale. Do it. Do it with your kids, do it with your neighbors.

Danielle, {aka Extraordinary Mommy} put together this great video from her day of volunteering at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank.  Pretty great stuff.

If you can’t donate a dollar, donate your time to a local food bank.  Also, the sweetest thing of all sweetness, each time you comment on this post or tweet about this post and the Child Hunger Ends Here campaign with the hashtag #fightchildhunger, $1 will be donated in the name of Petit Elefant.  Up to $100.

This is really critical, especially right now when schools across the country are getting out for the summer.  During the school year 19.5 million children receive free or reduced price lunch through the National Food Bank School Lunch Program but only a fraction of those, 2.2 million receive free meals during the summer months.  What’s happening to the other 17 million?  Every dollar raised through this program stays in your community to help feed these kids.

What are you waiting for?  Let’s earn some money to feed hungry kids.

Each comment earns $1 for hungry kids in your community.  Each tweet earns an additional dollar.  Use the hashtag #fightchildhunger.

It terrifies me that summer is such a precarious time for school lunch recipients. Thanks for making it so easy to donate a dollar with a comment.

Thank you for bringing attention to this! We have a park locally that offers free lunches every day in the summer (with good stuff like organic fruit and milk!) but it’s so sad that not a lot of people even KNOW about it, and so many people don’t even think about the poor children and what they do for lunch during their summer out of school.

    Thanks for doing this.

So they sent out invitations with the disease still to be announced. And, much to their surprise, the Bluths ended up raising over $25,000 to fight “TBA.” And then— a here’s the really horrible part— they did it again the following year.

    G.O.B.:
Keep fighting, little guy. With your support of the Bluth Foundation, we’ll live in a galaxy where “TBA” does not exist.

you got it, girlfriend. Mr. J heads up a massive food drive at his school each year with amazing results. It warms the heart to know so many people work so hard to do good.

I’ve volunteered at my local food bank sorting all the donated cans. It’s actually kinda fun for my loves to organize self. Some companies offer a few hours of comp time a month for volunteer work. If your company has this program, getting your co-workers together and working at the local food bank would be a great way to spend an afternoon and get out of work.

  25. Stepper :

    Children should not be hungry.
They should be allowed the childhood right to refuse to eat their vegetables.
But those vegetables should be an option!

  26. Daniella :

    Hope this helps! :)

  27. danyelle :

in a world where people are driving 70,000 dollar cars, why are children still hungry?

    this is a great cause.

  28. Camile :

Kids gotta eat! I’m glad you’re doing something to help that :)

  29. Naomi :

I took the 5th graders from Roo’s school to a local food bank last year and the kids were so overwhelmed thinking that some people don’t have enough food, not to mention clothes, toys, books, etc. It’s so important to raise our kids with the knowledge that we have more than others and should help when we can.

  30. elz :

Local food bank’s do God’s work in our neighborhood. Whatever we can do, we should.

  31. Casee :

Let’s stop childhood hunger. Thanks Allison!

Nice article! I hope I’m not too late to donate my dollar.
