book pick: yay you!

One of the greatest things about parenting {for me anyway} is reading the plethora of fantastic children’s books out there. I was so happy to find Sandra Boynton when P was little. There’s something so heartening about reading books by a writer that doesn’t take herself too seriously, especially when you’re in the midst of sleepless nights and adult-free conversation days. I’m not sure how I hadn’t heard about her before {I was in college, I suppose that’s it} but…

garden party idea.

Soji Lanterns $17.99 each. {via Rittenhouse}. Since it’s been warmer than 45 degrees for a few days straight I’m having all sorts of crazy thoughts; warm, garden themed thoughts. I’ve been eyeing these for a while now, and I might have to splurge and get a few. They’re solar powered, so I wouldn’t have to worry about burning the garden down with tea lights. Wouldn’t these look so cute along a fence in the backyard, all aglow on a warm…

book pick: quiet LOUD.

Lately I’ve been trying to read books with C {my completely stereotypical 3-year-old boy} that will help him understand the difference between inside behavior and, well wild animal behavior. Reading this book to C was an epiphany for him; I could honestly see the light bulb illuminate over his head when we read about things that make quiet sounds and things that make loud ones. His quiet and LOUD are the same volume. I’m always telling him to take it…

great craft book pick.

great craft book pick

{via Barnes & Noble}. $11.65 My mother is a very crafty lady and I found this book {by Miyako Kanamori} amongst her shelves and shelves of quilting and sewing books a few weeks ago. The projects look adorable in addition to having the gold stamp of approval from my mother. You just can’t go wrong picking this up and creating some of the fun creatures found within.
