Restaurant style fresh salsa

restaurant salsa

My name is Lindsey and I am addicted to chips and salsa.  I don’t know why I even order an entree when we go to Mexican restaurants.  The only thing I really go for is the chips and restaurant style fresh salsa.  And if a restaurant has lame salsa, I’m probably never going back. I started making salsa at home once I realized it was possible.  I was 18.  So a bit of a dunce, I guess.  But it was…

Back to school traditions old and new

I have a little back-to-school tradition for my husband, the teacher/administrator. Each first day of school I deliver a bundle of goodies and supplies to his classroom. Just for him. Bouquets of pencils, snacks, apples, and the like. I look forward to putting it together as much as he looks forward to the special delivery. This year marks the advent of a new back-to-school tradition: I’m sending my first baby to Kindergarten! On a bus! Every day! He’s bursting with…

Make some tasty vegetable curry

make some tasty vegetable curry

I love to tell the story of how I went from hating on veggies to eating a mostly plant-based diet.  Part of that drastic progression involved eating plenty of curries–Indian and Thai especially.  I’ll save the rest of the story for another day, because today it’s all about how you need to make some tasty vegetable curry. I kind of go crazy when I go to the produce section or farm stands.  Everything looks so beautiful, I can’t wait to…

Amazing Greek chicken salad recipe

greek salad

If you like Greek salads, you’ll love this chicken salad.  It pairs all of the favorites of Green salads–tomatoes, cucumber, kalamata olives and feta, with the fun addition of minced capers, tossed together with a creamy, lemony yogurt dressing that will knock your socks off. We ate this on fresh, organic salad greens from a local farm as a gluten-free lunch.  But we also think this would be fantastic inside pita bread or on a soft roll for a light…

Vegan hummus and avocado taco recipe

vegan hummus + avocado taco recipe

It’s summer.  It’s hot.  I want something to eat that doesn’t involve turning on the stove.  I also crave the freshness of summer produce.  This is the perfect lunch to fill me up and keep me running after my kids.  Pssst!  It’s also gluten-free and vegan.  Which means it’s healthy.  It’s also portable.  Take it with you on your way to the pool or the park.  Whip it out when you’re on a hike.  Perfection wrapped up in one little…

Yellow + grey bedroom design

After eight years of living in our home, it’s finally (finally!) time  to redecorate our master bedroom.  I’m really antsy to get started on the design and have spent many, many hours on my Pinterest boards pinning yellow + grey bedroom design ideas.   The whole point of the redesign is to make the bedroom a more current reflection of my style, and to make a calm and serene place to retreat at the end of a long day.  Isn’t that…

We are art what are you?

we are art what are you

Art dot com has just launched a new website, and in celebration, a few weeks ago I traveled to San Francisco to attend the coolest kind of summit possible, the kind with smart people and amazing art and stunning scenery.  I went to San Francisco, home base for Art.com, as one of the Art.Com 25 bloggers working with Art.com this year to share a little behind the scenes of the redesign of Art.com which is based in San Francisco. Here’s…

How do you celebrate July 4th?

flag cake for the 4th of July

The 4th of July is my favorite holiday, period.  There isn’t a time of year I love more than summer, and the fact that there’s a holiday smack dab in the middle of it doesn’t hurt.  I love that the 4th of July includes eating your weight in watermelon, having parades in the middle of the street, and hosting afternoon BBQs before shooting fireworks off into the dark. The 4th of July is completely magical from dawn to dusk, and…

Are you gluten free?  Did you know I’m a leader in the Udi’s gluten free community?  It’s a place for the gluten free people of the world to hang and share ideas for gluten free living, and is a great support in general for people who are totally best veggie fruit smoothie ever or looking to dabble a bit. I’ve gotten a lot of really great ideas from the Udi’s community to make gluten free living easier, since I’m in…
