Martha never fails me. You can easily make a night light for your child’s nursery following these instructions. But hey, why stop there? If you’re going to make one for the nursery, why not make one for your room too? They look easy to make, and you can customize the light to match your tastes instead of a cheesy cartoon character. {via Martha Stewart.com}. var gaJsHost = (("https:" == document.location.protocol) ? a tutorial.
I loved the tutorial on one of my favorite design blogs How About Orange yesterday. It looks super easy and I’m already dreaming of the possibilities for my house. See full instructions here. {photos and instructions via How About Orange}.
pottery barn sale.
So it seems Pottery Barn Kids is constantly advertising a “sale” of some kind. Sure, whatever. $5 off a gazillion dollar item. Whoopee. I took the time to do a little browsing, however, and found some actually great deals on fun items–perfect for your own little ones or for stocking your gift cache. A sampling: Though summer is ending all too quickly, I might snatch up one of these for next year. Looks like tons of fun, sure to make…

TV Dinners Revisited
Back in the day when my parents hired a babysitter for me and my sister, we considered having TV dinners a special treat. The salisbury steak and apple cobbler came in aluminum divided trays that went in the oven (not the microwave) ’til all their sodium and preservatives were cooked to piping hot perfection. I think we only found them edible because of the fun divided plate! I’ve been searching for something similar in function, but better looking in form. …

Baby Projects
I am a Design*Sponge devotee. I read it and a couple other design blogs for my work, and collect images of current trends, of things I love, and of potential inspiration. Last week, on DIY Wednesday, I found this wonderful gem. Now Mike and I already have a mobile for the baby, but I can’t wait to think of ways to incorporate these sweet birds into the baby’s room (which is still a storage room right now). Full instructions for…

scented soy candles.
Small towns like mine really do have a lot to offer. I recently discovered SimpliNature Soy Candles and I’m impressed! “Our candles have no added chemical dyes and we use cotton-coreless wicks. We hand-pour our soy candles into American made glass…When we started the company three years ago, we wanted the best clean-burning candles on the market. We developed our own soy wax recipe that burns straight across and down.” Get this–the wax can be rubbed into the skin like…

beautiful pottery from labour & wait.
Blue/Cream Enamel {1/2 liter} Price: £16.50 I love this lidded mug from the British Labour and Wait. Perhaps because it’s a rainy & blustery day here, and I’m dreaming of the perfect hot cup of cocoa. Check out the rest of their lovely shop here.
growth chart.
Growth Chart. {Box measures 7.25″ x 7.25″ x 2.75″}. $40. I think Miss Natalie is onto something here. These growth charts {from her Etsy shop Miss Natalie} are the perfect solution for the transition years between apartment living and permanent home dwelling. I used the not-so-original idea of measuring P’s growth on a two-by-four before we moved to our home. Not cute. It served it’s purpose, but without any aesthetic appeal. I wish I’d had one of these. Packaged in…
