every charitable act is a stepping stone toward heaven –henry ward beecher In the wake of a devastating tragedy for a young mom in my neighborhood, I’ve witnessed true charity today. I’ve witnessed kindness and generosity, selfless and pure, extended by women in the community. By women who don’t even know this mother of 3 small children who lost her husband unexpectedly last night. It has warmed my heart to see how people come together full of love and support…

starting the weight watchers program.
As much as it pains me to do it, I’m posting a photo of myself in a sports bra to keep myself accountable to the world. I’m working out a minimum of 3x weekly, an hour each time on top of doing Weight Watchers online but I need a community to keep me honest and out of the bag of licorice on top of the fridge. So here I am, in all my middle-area-problem glory. No judging. “Don’t you judge…

shark hat for kids.
I found this hat out there totally by accident. I swear that I did not use “shark+attack+children|kids” as a search query in Google. Either way, here it is from craftster.org. For those crafty types out there, this would be one awesome way to accessorize your children. UPDATE: Upon further research, I have found a Cthulhu knitted mask as well. Either way, both are winners.
God bless melissa and doug
Their wooden toys are simple but brilliant, and appropriate for a grand span of ages. My toddler is only two and a half, but I’ve found perfect Melissa and Doug activities for him at each phase of his development. Today I introduced a new puzzle to him–it was just challenging enough to hold his interest, yet not so challenging he became frustrated. Kept him quiet, in one place, and happy long enough for me to get dinner on the table….

thursday fit tip.
I had a major “aha!” moment this week. It shouldn’t be news to me, but unfortunately it was. My fit tip today is like the Boy Scout’s of America motto: Be Prepared I mean it. Be prepared. For that mid-morning snack, those afternoon cravings, dinner menus, midnight pillaging of the kitchen cupboards {come on, don’t tell me I’m the only one}. I absolutely need to have a plan or I’ll eat like a teenage boy every time. I need to…

family beach cruiser.

How cool is this bike/trike? Equipped with safety belts in the cargo bucket and smartly designed by a Salt Lake City based company. Perfect for trips to the farmers market, the park, or just your local bike trail. Plus, it’s nice to look at. I’m dying to give it a spin!
weekly fitness tip: lay out exercise gear.
Our fit tip today comes from our very own KJ, who is the mother of a very new-ish baby and is exercising. She says: Very early mornings are usually my only chance to get in some concentrated exercise. It’s hard to get out of bed after that 5 am feeding for baby, but it helps to lay out me exercise gear at night: shoes, socks, industrial strength foundation garment, ipod, etc. in a neat stack next to the bed so…

t-shirt reconstruction

My husband has a [huge] collection of concert t-shirts, from Garth Brooks to Page & Plant to U2. They currently reside in a plastic storage bin, in a closet, and have been there our entire marriage. He doesn’t wear them, but won’t part with them. Finally, thanks to the clearly talented mama behind This Mama Makes Stuff, I’ve found a very cool solution: Infant nightgowns. Very cool for the following reasons: 1. infant gowns are among my favorite baby things,…

children’s glass tea set from IKEA.
I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m a fan of IKEA and all its cleverness. Have you seen these child-size dishes? Non-plastic, food safe. Very cute. And for $9.99, make that very cute indeed.
