imagine childhood

I’m rather excited about the goodies I’ve found over at imagine childhood. What a grand collection of gadgets and what-nots for creating, playing and learning in the great outdoors. All inspired by a simpler way of living. Perfect whether you live on the edge of the wilderness  like I do, or whether you travel a ways to see the stars, or whether your wilderness exists in your living room.  tree blocks, $27.95 I like the earthy, organic look and round shapes…

ItzaBitza computer game.

My kids are enthralled with this new computer game. ItzaBitza is a clever computer game that incorporates your children’s own drawings into the fun. Don’t be fooled by the hokey graphics, this game is a total win with my kids. They fight over whose turn it is to create a little world of their own, and the game has gotten superb accolades from the best in the business. Your child helps the characters {aka Sketchies} by providing them with “new…

Ode to Ikea

Who says money can’t buy you happiness? I say it can. And not only that, but if you shop at Ikea, you can buy happiness for cheap! Hooray! Mike, Little O, and I took a trip to Ikea last week. It was supposed to be an in-and-out sort of deal that lasts only 20 minutes, but how is that even possible? Ikea is my Disneyland. We went in for a frame and for fabric. I have been craving a change…

What is the CPSIA?

STILL CONFUSED? JOIN THE CLUB, by Emily Hill Before Allison left on her family vacation adventure she asked me to write a couple posts this week for Petit Elefant. To be perfectly honest I invited myself and my posts over to “play” and Allison was nice enough to humor me. (And to think I tell my girls all the time it’s rude to invite yourself anywhere!) But I digress… Though I totally plan on writing something super nifty and original…

bendaroos set.

Surely you’ve seen the commercials on Nick Jr. No? The Disney channel? My kids have seen Bendaroos commercials aplenty and they’ve been begging me for months to buy some, repeating the commercials to me verbatim. Bendaroos are actually pretty cool. They’re like strings dipped in wax that can be reshaped endlessly to create all sorts of entertainment. I’ve been finding little artistic assortments all over my house lately. First there was this: {a little bouquet for my desk} Then this…

tooth fairy pillows.

My little P bless her heart, is like a little jack-o-lantern pumpkin right now with her teeth. They come, they go. Mostly, they go. It softens the blow a little bit though, when you have one of these kicking around the bedroom. Tooth Cushion {via Letter M Design} $35 Honestly? How cute. There’s a little pocket for correspondence between your child and the tooth fairy {those all-important notes} where your child can also leave the tooth, and find his/her loot…

God bless melissa and doug

Their wooden toys are simple but brilliant, and appropriate for a grand span of ages.  My toddler is only two and a half, but I’ve found perfect Melissa and Doug activities for him at each phase of his development. Today I introduced a new puzzle to him–it was just challenging enough to hold his interest, yet not so challenging he became frustrated. Kept him quiet, in one place, and happy long enough for me to get dinner on the table….

children’s glass tea set from IKEA.

I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m a fan of IKEA and all its cleverness. Have you seen these child-size dishes? Non-plastic, food safe. Very cute. And for $9.99, make that very cute indeed.

homemade i spy games.

I’m surrounded by creative, talented, cute moms wowing me with their skills. Kristina and Angie have created Bonksy, a line of made-by-hand quiet toys plus sassy bows and pacifier clippies. Their I-Spy bags are the most darling I’ve ever seen, with so much attention to detail. My toddler, constantly moving and up to mischief, actually sits still with determined concentration as he seeks out all the fun little doo-dads hidden in these soft bean bags. He’s always so proud of himself…
