The Moving Wall: Vietnam Memorial

the moving wall

The Vietnam Memorial moving wall came through our town last week, and it was pretty phenomenal.  Visiting the actual memorial in Washington D.C. is definitely on my list of things to do with my kids, and soon, so I was thrilled when the moving wall came for a visit. When I rounded the corner in the cemetery, where the moving wall was set up, I felt like I’d been slammed in the chest a little.  I was overwhelmed by the…

My Life List, So Far

beach front hotel in california

This month, over my birthday weekend in fact, I’m going to attend the Mighty Summit in the Russian River Valley, outside of San Francisco.  To say I’m excited doesn’t cover it.  A small, hand selected group of some of the smartest women in social media for a weekend of brain trusting and pampering?  Yes, please. Part of the deal with the Mighty Summit is coming up with a Life List.  You know, like a bucket list only less grim.  I…

Justin Hackworth 30 Strangers Exhibit.

portrait photographer

Remember a few months ago how I participated in a photography project by one of my favorite photographers, Justin Hackworth? Justin shoots an amazing series called 30 Strangers wherein he shoots 30 strangers in 30 days, and donates the proceeds from the shoots to a local women’s shelter.  It’s amazing, top to bottom, and I was so thrilled to have been a part. Now Justin Hackworth is holding an exhibit to showcase the 30 Strangers photography. Here’s the skinny: Opening…

On why I love my mom.

mom

My mom makes wonder woman look like a slacker.  Like maybe she’s tired and taking a lunch break instead of saving the world. I’m one of eight children, yes eight, who are all 2 years apart. My mother didn’t sit down from approximately 1968-2007.  No, she’s still not sitting down if we’re going to be completely accurate.  Not only did she have eight children, she worked full time, was heavily involved in church responsibilities, taught Joy School for the younger…

my boyfriend’s outta town.

The boys have left, all three of them, to take Dziadek {our Polish grandpa} back to California. It’s just me and Precocious all alone with the world at our fingertips. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. They left quite a mess in their wake, those boys. And for any of you who might feel a little jealous that I’m getting a renovated kitchen, that I get to travel all the time, and that I own a horse, I want you to do a little exercise…

1st grade photobooth.

Viktor found this photo of me in the depths of our basement the other day. I’d never seen before but it but it’s what I looked like in the first grade after I gave myself a bang trim. Those bangs must have been bothering me, and I haven’t stopped the hair schizophrenia since.

happy new year!

I’m completely excited about a new year. New Year’s resolutions, fresh slate, clean house. I haven’t gotten to the clean house part yet but it’s one of my resolutions! 2009 was bananas for me. BA-NA-NAS. I traveled all over the country: Houston, Napa Valley, San Francisco, Monterey, Huntington Beach, L.A., San Diego, Chicago, Boston, New York, Huntington Beach {again}, Salt Lake City. I threw a party with a group of amazing women at BlogHer ’09, and survived to tell about…

stephanie’s story.

{photo via The Arizona Republic} Have you read the full story about Nie Nie’s ordeal in the Arizona Republic? Oh my. So well written it will make you weep into your shirt. Bring a tissue or two, or three. Love you Steph.

I’m sick.

Friends, I’m in bed. I feel like I’m dying, but that’s just me being dramatic. I literally have a fever of 102.2 and am having coughing contests with Charming, and there will be a lot of SpongeBob watching today. I’ll be back later with holiday gift guides and giveaways galore. Hooray for alliteration!
