One of my favorite children’s books of all time {all time} is called Click, Clack, Moo Cows That Type, the Caldecott Honor winner of 2001. It was written by Doreen Cronin who is apparently an ex-attorney, which explains the dry humor and hilarious negotiations in the story.
The story is about a barn full of cows who discover a typewriter and start typing out letters to the farmer, requesting things to make their lives a little more comfortable.
I love how innocent the cows look in the illustration above. It’s one of those books you read with your children to get them to sleep at night, only it doesn’t work because you end up laughing until you cry, encouraging disruptive behavior and prolonged bedtime. Or so I hear.
Duck might be the best character in the whole book, but I won’t ruin it for you. Go check it out at the library, or buy Click Clack Moo on Amazon. It’s redemptive of children’s books all around the world.
There are two other books from the same author and illustrator in the same vein called: Duck for President and Giggle, Giggle, Quack.
Giggle away!
My kids love that book! Another favorite is Spooky Tree. I read it so much to each of them that they had it memorized.
Spooky Tree? I don’t think we’ve read that one! You’ll have to show me when I get home.
Oh I Will. You call me the minute you get back in town! It’s a special treat!
LOVE Click Clack moo! Such a cute book, my kids love this one!
More importantly, I love this one.
I love these books!!
I heard there’s another one in the line, I can’t wait to check it out.
We love this book too!
Isn’t it hilarious? I worship duck.
I do love this book. The 2nd one out was not NEARLY as entertaining. A little bit of a letdown. But yes, I bought mine for 50cents–used. My kids crack up every time we read it. Duck is awesome. My kind of animal.
You think? I still love that whole vein though, the entertaining for parents while keeping kids happy kind?
One of our favs too!
Another one my son LOVES is “Skippy Jon Jones” (different Author, but fun none the less).
How could I not have connected those two dots? I’m pretty darn sure we OWN Skippy Jon Jones! What a great one.
