simple birthday parties for kids.

As M nears his 2nd birthday, I realize that the era of birthday parties will soon be upon us. We are foregoing a party this year, but plan to involve his playmates at his 3rd birthday celebration. A daunting feat, must admit. But, ta da!  Just a couple of days ago I received my bonus family issue of Real Simple (a perk of subscribing faithfully–I don’t know what I’d do without it). It’s a great issue, and happens to feature clever suggestions for kids birthday parties: “Little” Italy (an upgraded twist on the typical pizza party), or my favorite, the Treasure Hunt Party. Great suggestions for decorations, food, games that can be used literally or as an inspiration for your own ideas. I thought the make-your-own telescope activity and peg-leg races were perfect for several age groups. The newspaper pirate hats are great, though I’d have to recruit a friend to make them. I’m hopelessly un-crafty.

...by day, making a home where the buffalo roam. By night, pretty much the same thing, punctuated by the occasional fantasies of sunny beaches, italian movies and sparkling lemonade.
