baby shower etiquette: the experts

You dear readers are brimming with wonderful insight. Thanks for being so helpful and for starting such a great “conversation.” As far as the shower in question goes, I think it will be a smashing success. In this case I think I made the right call to do a custom invite-by-email. For the guest of honor and a few of her guests that aren’t keen on email, I did a cute paper invitation. It’s similar in appearance to the electronic which represented our theme: a little pumpkin. Everybody’s happy.
* For the absolute final word in party-hosting etiquette, I consulted myriad “expert” websites. I realized that if Martha suggests it, it’s acceptable. It’s right here on the party checklist.
* I opted to note: babes in arms welcome on the invitations. With so many guests, accommodating toddlers too could become really complicated and hinder some of the fun.
* The mommy-to-be and I have decided on an open-house format for the shower in order to accommodate her lengthy guest list. This simplifies things considerably, read: complicated games are out of the question. Whew! Candy bars melted in diapers isn’t my style.
Instead, I’ve a few simple, optional activities planned to keep guests engaged. Here’s a hint:
I’ll keep you posted on the details…because we are all about the details around here.

I'm still stunned at the part with the 50 invitees. Where were you supposed to put all of these people exactly? But your open house idea sounds really good and I'm sure it'll be a great party!

Seriously, you're handling yourself quite well. 50 is ridonkulous.

Can't wait to hear the details… you know I think the best party is the one with a happy guest-of-honor, where she feels loved. And if she wants to be loved with 50 people (and its not going to drive you crazy) then go for it!

50 is a lot. I'm happy to host for her, not all 50 will come, it's hard to elegantly host so many though with a limited budget and a non-huge home. I feel good about it thus far. Thanks for the votes of confidence!

What a fun theme…can't wait to see what you do!

Yeah if I have to play that melted candy bar game again I'll loose my cookies. Grosses me out every time.
