This Saturday Mike and I woke up and, for the first time in what seems like forever, didn’t have anything scheduled for the day. So after some discussion of our options, we decided that it was probably a great time to do a birth announcement for Little O. We brainstormed a bit and decided that we’d like to do something like the opening scene of Juno where there is a mixture of photograph and illustration. A few hours later, we had this as our final product. (Well, not the final product, but it’s ready for printing.)
I love having an artistic husband who I can collaborate with on projects like this. Mike did the photography. I did the illustration of Little O’s surroundings. Mike colored in the lion and the walls. I wrote in Little O’s stats. We basically just kept switching seats at the computer until it was done.
It’s nice to have something to show for our Saturday. Of course, it’s always nice to have a vacuumed house and a clean kitchen, which are some of the more boring but traditional weekend activities around here. But this little project was something spontaneous but tangible that we can keep forever. (I’d like to print out a larger version to frame for Little O’s bedroom.)
What have you done lately with a weekend that left you feeling productive and fulfilled?
I watched my cousin bake whole wheat bread and cinnamon rolls. For me. In my kitchen. Productive and filling, indeed.
Really really cute!!!

Too cute, love it!
Beautiful! I love that announcement – so adorable. We listed our house for sale, so we were doing the “traditional” Saturday activities (cleaning, organizing, “open house”-ing!)
That is really a great announcement! And a sweet baby, too, of course…
I love your card, your baby, and now I want to watch Juno again. I didn’t have a productive weekend because it was way too sunny out. We spent the day outside and now I’m trying to catch up today…
I don’t remember much of my Saturday, and perhaps that’s a good thing.
Very fun. We made “marble” art with my oldest and played in the rain. Not quite as creative, but still fun. Oh, and I made flip books of my children to give as gifts. Does that count?

so cute. i really need to take your illustrator class…maybe this summer if you’re still offering it! i’ve taken a class, but i feel like the learning curve is so steep! (and i’m experienced with InDesign and Photoshop!)
this weekend I turned in a draft of one of my 30-page papers and cleaned the apartment. :)
As a graphic artist I appreciate the time it took to make a clipping path around baby "o" :)
My weekend was filling for my heart! I got to see my babies interact & bond with their uncle they only see a few times a year! Isn't it amazing how full life is once you have babies?!
Such an adorable baby announcement, and it’s extra special that the two of you worked together on it.
This weekend I redesigned my blog, so it was a productive Sat/Sun for me too.
Thanks to Gwen Bell, I found you on Twitter. Amazing design, and we (TinyPrints.com) know birth announcements.
So sweet! Found your post up on Kirtsy & can't think of a better place to shine the love. Beautiful baby & announcement!
