back yard renovations

backyard

Our backyard has taken a brutal beating this winter, what with all the snow and you know, freezing temperatures Utah has to offer.  Once the first snowstorm hits in about October it’s like the yard has been a victim of natural disaster.  Toys spend the winter entombed in snow exactly where they were dropped when the snow started falling.  This time around I found a pair of shoes and a handful of socks under the thaw, classy like.

In addition to the natural beauty of snow devastation on the yard, Viktor has been doing a handful of renovation projects using the deck as his workspace.  We ended up with a tile saw on an old plastic patio table we inherited when a friend moved.  The only real improvement our yard has had in the last 9 months is the fence Viktor put in right before the snow fell; the only separation of church and state we have in this neighborhood.

However, over the weekend we renovated the backyard.  We had a couple of delays when lightning struck the electrical pole in the backyard right before it started snowing AT THE END OF APRIL, but we muddled through and cleaned up our act a bit.

In fact we’re so classy now I won’t mind inviting friends over for a barbeque.

I’m so excited about the whole thing I don’t know what to do with myself.

P.S. This is a sponsored post.  I paid for the kids though, and THEY were pricey.  I’ll bet you can’t guess where I got everything for the renovation.

I’ll be over this Saturday at 5! Lovely.

    • Allison :

      I’ll bring the Keilbasa.

  2. Naomi :

What, you didn’t like eating off the tile saw? I guess the patio set would be more comfortable… kidding, kidding! Looks great! (And I still have a crush on your kiddos.)

    • Allison :

Me too! About the kiddos. I think ours would get along swimmingly! And no, that plastic bit of nonsense wasn’t for eating. Or for looking at, for that matter.

Not much time left to enjoy it! I just posted about my garden today… got all the top soil on my garden, but gotta wait till we get back from California to plant! :) SOOOO excited for Organic tomatoes.

    • Allison :

I wish I could be planting a vegetable garden right now but when we leave for Europe it will die! I love homegrown tomatoes.

      • katrina :

        have fun! SOOO jealous ;)

  4. Sarah :

Love it. About the only thing I do like about spring around this state is the opportunity to spiff up the yard. Yours looks great, kudos!

    • Allison :

I know, seriously, I’m ready to move after this rotten winter!

Thanks lady, you need to come hang here soon.

      • Sarah :

        Agreed.

  5. The Mommy Therapy :

Wow! It looks great. You should definitely have people over to share the fresh and beautiful look!

We just got our first tomatoes from our garden and I am ready to burst with the joy at having them again this year. That’s what happens when you live in Texas though, it’s hot here, things grow early and then die mid summer from the painful heat.

    • Allison :

You should look up my homemade salsa recipe. Seriously, you’re killing me. We don’t get tomatoes until August!

  6. Courtney Velasquez :

Allison… your outdoor living area looks great! I can’t wait till you reveal where you purchased everything;)

    • Allison :

      Just you wait!

  7. Courtney :

Your yard makeover looks great~ such an inviting spot to and relax! Great action picture of the kids bouncing on the trampoline~have you tried it out yet?
I hear you on the snow issues- this past winter did a lot of damage out here in California too. I am ready to move too- Southern California is calling me!! lol! Enjoy your pretty space! :)

    • Allison :

I don’t dare get on the trampoline, two kids haven’t been kind to my bladder. I can’t wait for a sleepover on the tramp this summer though.

  8. Zippy Sandler :

Looks like you’re going to be spending a lot of your summer outside in the “new” yard. LOVIN IT!

    • Allison :

It’s amazing what a little spit and polish do, right?

  9. Cara :

Your renovation looks amazing! What else are you growing in your garden these days? I just started on herbs!

    • Allison :

Sadly because we’re going to be in Europe so long, we aren’t planting a garden right now.

      • Cara :

Ah yes I just read your last post. The flowers look awesome. Love that you have the kids involved too!

I def make my kids help me prepare dinner and plant in the garden just so they know where their food comes form…I also applied for a Yes to Seed Fund grant for them so they can get a garden at their school! :P

  10. Marie :

Awesome! I love your new fence too, Viktor did good. And a trampoline?! Jealous!

    • Allison :

Hmmm, maybe you should stick around for the summer.
