the best deodorant for women.

I’m not going to lie to you, I sweat a lot. I’m constantly on the prowl for newer, stronger, better smelling deodorant. I have rotated through every kind you can imagine: men’s, women’s, teenager’s deodorant filled with bad odor and angst, prescription, you name it, I’ve tried it.

The best deodorant for women, for stinky women like myself, is a deodorant with at least 19% Aluminum Zirconium Tetrachlorohydrex Glycine. Say that ten times fast. My favorite in this category is Dove Clinical Protection. It has 20%. Rock on, Dove.

This deodorant was the party favor at the Sparklecorn party at BlogHer last year, and I two-fisted several packages of it back to my room {what? it’s $8 at the grocery store!}. Everyone made fun of me all along the way, but I still have one or two left in my arsenal, and I’m sweet smelling to boot. Who’s laughing now ladies?

It doesn’t hurt that I’ve used Dove soap since I was a little kid, and I love the Dove campaign for real beauty. Seriously, weren’t those commercials great?

What do you use? It’s okay if you don’t want to tell, deodorant can be personal. I just have no shame left in the world, and I’m okay with it.

  1. Amanda K :

I like Secret Platinum. But yeah, there are occasional times I think that I should try something stronger.

You know it's bad when you can smell yourself…

  2. Naomi :

I'm a fan, too, although I got to the Sparklecorn party late and there was no more swag to be had.

  3. Mrs. Potts :

I might just have the most embarrassing deodorant revelation yet – I use my husband's brand! Seriously, it's the only thing that I've tried that works. It's Old Spice Red Zone and I just checked – it has 19% of that aluminumy-thingamajig. And it's cheaper than $8! (But kudos to you for smelling like a woman and not a man.)

  4. Heather :

Totally a sweater! I la-la-love Dove deodorant, all the others make me rashy. No shame in my game either ;)

  5. Azúcar :

I buy whatever's on sale: usually Dove or Secret. I'm not a big sweater and I don't stink too much, so whatever I buy usually works.

  6. Kelsey :

I'm a stinker for sure and I've tried so many different things. I don't mind sweating (it's healthy, right?!?) I just don't want it to stink.

Straight baking soda is what I use. A little unorthodox, but it works.

  7. Mindy :

I need stronger deodorant too ;) Degree for Women Clinical Strength actually worked better for me than Dove Clinical. I also tried Secret Prescription Strength, but Degree has been the best for me!

  8. vanessa :

I have this problem too!! lol it is so embarassing! I like the Dove one too :)

  9. the emily :

I'm not afraid! I use Secret Platinum protection…the clear one. My deodorant always gets on my shirt so I have to use a clear one.

  10. Hazel's Mommie (aka liz) :

ha! i'll spill – i'm in your same boat! sweaty all the time, even in the middly of winter with goosebumps up and down my arms. seriously, i now use a Rx one that goes on at night before bed, and washes off in the morning shower. i'm as dry as a the sahara even after a vigorous workout and it's a miracle! so, have no shame in finding something that works – it's tough out there for hotties like us!
    Liz

  11. Cindy :

I use Secret Clinical Strength. My daughter just started using the Dove stuff and she loves it. She said it is way cheaper than the Secret. I will have to try it. Hooray for dry armpits!

  12. Morgan :

I totally sweat in my armpits. I won't even be hot and will be wet with under my arms. I use Dove (regular) on a daily basis but use Certain-Dri every few nights before bed! That stuff saves me and lasts for a really long time!! Seriously, I love it and my pits stay totally dry!

  13. b. :

    I don't sweat a lot and I don't stink much either…but, I use Lady Speed Stick – Powder Fresh. It's my fave.

  14. Lisa :

Best timed post EVER! I just used the last bit of my full size sample of Secret Clinical and have to head out before lunch to get more (or suffer through meetings all afternoon stinky – no thank you). The secret was a free sample (LOVE FREE). It worked great – I can go 48hours between applications, but made me itch.

Guess I'll try the Dove Clinical today.

  15. Sherry :

just saw this yesterday and was afraid to try it. i've always been a sweat machine and used prescription for years. i've been using lady mitchum lately, but some days i still don't think that works.

  16. Erin :

Dove Go Fresh. There's a grapefruit one, and also a cucumber one, and they both smell awesome.

  17. aniC :

I love Dove products, but for some reason prefer the other clinical strength deodorants. But, if we're being honest, I probably need a perscription.
Glad to know there are several others in my same boat.

  18. ALC :

Thanks for sharing the haul P.E.! I could've used the armpit love. Actually it's funny you wrote this post because this is the same exact deo I'm using right now. I MUST use clinical strength. Must be our DNA.

  19. Tami H. :

Might want to re think using the deos containing Aluminum! Some studies link it to breast cancer. Just a thought and something to be aware of! I stopped using it about one year ago. Men's Original Old Spice is the only one that I can find that doesn't contain Aluminum and it works just fine!

  20. Petit Elefant :

    Liz,

    Hotties like us. Indeed!

    Knickerbockers,

I alternate between this and Secret platinum.

    Naomi,

There was tons of swag! It was just set up on tables, it was only the deodorant. I totally wouldn't have taken more than one if there hadn't been tons extra when the lights came on.

    Mrs. Potts,

Have totally done that and I don't think it's embarrassing I just hate smelling like my guy.

    Cindy,

I've totally used Secret Clinical. I hate how expensive these great ones are though.

    Heather,

No shame, ever. Interesting about the rashy though.

    Carina,

    Stop it. Not fair.

    Morgan,

Thanks for the suggestion! What is it with having to alternate to stay dry?

    Kelsey,

What on earth are the logistics of using Baking Soda? I'm completely curious now!

    Mindy,

I'm going to have to check it out, I swear it's cheaper than what I'm buying!

    b.,

Lady Speedstick is what my daughter uses, I can't believe it works on you! No fair.

    Vanessa,

Not embarrassing at all, it's totally true!

    The Emily,

Clear is awesome. I get all kinds of deodorant stains on my clothes and they're tricky to get off!

    Lisa,

Maybe it's the zinc superblahblahblah that makes us all itch a little under the armpits with the strong stuff?

    Sheri,

Lady Mitchum huh? I think I used that in high school for a while but I can't remember. It's good then?

    Erin,

Does Dove fresh have 19% glocophosphatewhateverit'scalled?
I'd love to try something fruity.

    AniC,

I think it's one of those things people just don't talk about, but we SHOULD. I think I might be at the prescription stage as well. sigh.

    ALC,

It is the DNA! I'm a sweater for sure darn it! I love you a lot, but I'd rather share other swag with you, not my precious deodorant!

    Tami H,

I've heard that too, thanks for sharing! I'll have to look into the way Old Spice reacts with my body and see if it works. Thanks for the tip!
