Weekend in Vegas.

I still haven’t written about Mighty Summit because I’m tired, and still processing the happiness of the whole weekend, and in the interim, I went to Vegas for the weekend.  Because apparently being in two major cities in one week isn’t enough, I needed to make it three.  Sigh.

So a couple weeks ago my girlfriend Carina told me she had extra tickets to The Pixies in Las Vegas.  The Pixies are one of my favorite bands, ever.  I mean, any band that has a song called ‘Allison’ in their repertoire is on my books for life, so having free tickets to the show seemed like a given.  Although.  I’m tired, I’ve been traveling a lot, and my house is a mess.

While I was sitting at the airport waiting for my flight home from San Francisco, Viktor called to see where I stood on the issue.  I told him I thought it was too much work, I didn’t know where we’d find childcare, and did I mention I was tired?  I turned to my friend Heather and asked her if it was worth making a trip to Vegas happen to see The Pixies.  She sort of lifted one eyebrow, as she does, and said unequivocally yes, yes it was worth it.

And so we did.

The show was really good.  In fact, their live rendition of ‘Here Comes Your Man‘ made me positively bouncy.

The night ended on a surreal note with Stephen King walking right past us, unrecognized by everyone but me and Viktor, as we simultaneously looked at one another and said “Is that….um…..do you think it could be, no it couldn’t be, he wouldn’t be at The Hard Rock would he, is that really him?”

And it so totally was.

On an unrelated note, this is what I wore to the show.  Cheap fall tunic, denim Levi leggings, brown suede thrift store boots, and a necklace from Mighty Summit.  It was a much better choice than the very wasted 30-something guy next to us who was in a multicolored long sleeve confection that sparkled in the concert lights.

But he was so amusing to watch.

    • Allison :

I’m starting to like The Vegas Suzanne!

  2. Aimee Greeblemonkey :

OH YES PIXIES. One of my all time faves.

    • Allison :

I knew we were kindred spirits Aimee, I just knew it.

  3. Marianne Firth :

And I thought covering the Pixies on Rock Band with Carina was a good time. Extremely jealous! But glad that others are enjoying the greatness.

    • Allison :

It’s a very special experience, Rock Band Pixies. I have horribly funny photos of Carina doing just that. Don’t downgrade that experience for a minute.

  4. Emily :

So glad you went! Sometimes those last-minute trips are the VERY best!

    • Allison :

Aren’t they? I think they end up being the most fun because there are no expectations!

  5. robyn :

no pics of mr. multicolored-shirt-guy? bummers.

    • Allison :

I wish I’d gotten some but I don’t think my iPhone camera would have done all the shimmering justice. Sadly.

  6. Molly :

Looks like a great trip. I love the Pixies. I actually take great credit for introducing them to my younger brother years ago and, thereby, starting off his interest in great music. He has far surpassed me by now, but I at least like to say I kicked it off.

    • Allison :

Molly, you did a good job. My poor husband was introduced to Genesis, and it took him a while to find the light, so well done you!

  7. Marie :

Is that a STRIPED shirt I see? Even if it is a tunic and on a diagonal, those are stripes. How did P let you purchase that?!!!

Looks like a blast. I love that family photo!

    • Allison :

It is a complete Marie shirt! The only reason I was able to buy it is that P was at school and C approved the purchase! Ha.

      • Marie :

LOL! Glad I have C on my side!!! :)

      • Allison :

We do what we can in the Czarnecki household to approve of all Marie related activities.

  8. Emily :

Just booked a flight for a kids-free weekend in Vegas with the hubby. Haven’t had once since before kids (5 years ago)! Any quick suggestions on what to do (other than a Pixies concert)?

    • Petit Elefant :

Oh my gosh, there’s so much to do it’s criminal! We watched the fountains at the Bellagio forever, they were so much fun. A walk down the strip is really entertaining, but go see Cirque du Soleil, it’s AMAZING!

  9. Kayly Newcomer :

The Pixies are one of my all time favorite bands and they put on an *awesome* show. Love them!

    • Allison :

      Kayly,

It was so fantastic. They sound exactly like they do on CD which is hard to do, and Here Comes Your Man? Outstanding.
