startup princess utah

You know, I was never the best at anything in high school. Or college for that matter. I always had loads of friends and loved to dress up, accessorize, and play with makeup. I’ve always loved to read. In fact, in college I was the worst librarian ever because I always read books in the stacks instead of shelving them like I was getting paid to do. I loved every writing class I’ve ever taken, and felt like I excelled a little at least in that area. But you can’t really be captain of the writing team. See a pattern here?

You know what though, I think I’ve found what I’m good at, what I love. Some people get energy from solving math equations, designing buildings, creating html. I’m good at people, and I’m decent at writing. Which translates to me having a wicked good time blogging. I spend time with people like these and come home so buzzed I can’t even sleep.

I had a really good time Friday at the Startup Princess event in SLC. It’s always fun to hang out with the SLC blogging mafia, and even better to add to the circle of friends.

Heather Bailey has a really cool story, {I cried listening to her tell about the invention of her Trash Ties} is so creative she can’t sit still without sketching, and was great conversation in the speaker’s lounge {I wasn’t a speaker, I was just in search of cold caffeine and Heather invited me in to have a seat and chat}.

So if my high school teachers could see me now, I think it’s fair to say: I’ve found something I’m really good at doing. And I’m offering right here and now to be president of the blogging team, who wants in?

your *vote* means a lot to me, so thank you.

  9. MiaKatia :

I've read Kami's blog for a while too and think she is fantastic. I followed your instructions for a smokey eye, in purple because you said I could, and I (in my opinion) totally looked like I knew what I was doing. My husband even complimented it and he rarely notice if I am wearing makeup or not. So thank you! You have my vote for blog-coming queen too!

  10. Petit Elefant :

    MiaKatia,

Sweeeeet! I'll admit I haven't tried the purple yet, but can't wait to. I'm so glad the instructions worked, hooray!

  11. Illinivicki :

You are adorable and I love this post. You are SOOO the president of the blogging club!

  12. Deb :

I'm totally in. Can I be your vp? ;)

  13. Christy :

  14. Laura Ferry-Jimenez :

and you're also great at replying to comments! OMG – I only have like three people that read my blog and still don't always reply! :( haha.

  15. carol :

Isn't it amazing what opportunities a search for cold caffeine will bring :-) I had tons of fun with you and everyone, Allison! And your outfit was the cutest ever!

  16. Mamma :

    People and writing–yep! That's me.

You definitely have my vote. ;-)

I'm very interested to hear about what you took away from the conference.

  17. Petit Elefant :

    Christy,

Ohmyheavens, you could be president of the bloggers of America. Lincoln is the least you could be.

    Laura-Ferry Jimenez,

I try. Come on, it's a conversation right?

    Carol,

It was pretty awesome, right? Love that everyone sitting in the lounge had a cold diet coke in hand. Funny.

    Amy Smart,

We are too social not to hang on a regular basis. And we're too bloggy not to always have cameras to capture the evidence. So, play soon?

  18. Kami :

Sleep Over! Sleep Over! Hey wait a minute, I want to be blog-coming queen. ;)

  19. Petit Elefant :

    Kami,

We need to find someone who has a cabin in the woods and make it a snow retreat weekEND sleepover! Make it so the fun never stops!

You are totally blog-queen. Can I be your first attendant?

  20. amy smart :

So jealous of the photographic evidence! I think the thing that bugged me the most about our rescheduled house-closing wasn't the fact that I didn't get to move last weekend, but the fact that I didn't get to stay and hang out with all you cool people!

  21. kelly :

it was so much fun! i loved finally getting to me you! & i'm totally stealing that photo on top of all of us! i was too lazy to break out my camera… luckily you had yours!

  22. Petit Elefant :

    kelly,

I know, I loved meeting you too! Finally. We're hanging when I come to the OC and there's not a darn thing you can do about it. :)

  23. Marie {Make and Takes} :

That first pic turned out so cute! I'm going to have to steal it.

I had so much fun at that event! I loved chatting it up with fellow blogging entrepreneurs!

  24. Kelly King Anderson :

Great post on the event and your story about being AWESOME at something made me smile, yes, I vote for you as President. ;) Here's a link to an interview that we did with Heather on Startup Princess, may appease some of the Heather Bailey fans:

Next year I think we'll have to have the Blogging Pres. speak, what do ya think? ;)

  25. pieface :

You are hilarious. I have only just recently entered the blogging world myself, but have been an appreciator of the bloggyest bloggers (ie you!) for a while. This posting is exactly how I feel too – love people, really like to blog – it's a beautiful thing! Keep up the fun postings – your public needs you!!
