I am really skilled at Monopoly, and I’m not ashamed to admit it. Really skilled. Remember how my parents are kind of hippies? My family camped every summer for two weeks in random places along the west coast of the United States and I spent a lot of rainy days in Northern California inside our tent trailer wiping the floor with my siblings. I’m what you call a Monopoly savant. Girl’s got strategy.
I’ve been on the prowl for quite some time for an old Monopoly game. None of this new techie stuff, but an old school Monopoly board. I want to pass my skills onto my kids while I can. So naturally when I found a Monopoly game for $2 at a thrift store a month ago, and it was only missing a few property pieces, I was thrilled.

I can whip up properties on 3″ x 5″ index cards in my sleep. I eat properties for dinner.
In case you’re wondering? the closest side of the board in the photo belongs to mama. I show no mercy when playing with my children. It’s my gift to them: real life experience. In the form of a Monopoly game.
Hey, I’m winging this parenting thing as much as the next guy.
Oh I LOVE Monopoly! And I think it’s hilarious that you won’t show your kids any mercy! I wouldn’t either.
I knew we had similar brains! I think it’s my gift to them, showing them no mercy.
{wink}
Love it! We have a thrifted Rook that I absolutely love. Something about that taped box.
I know, it totally reminds me of my childhood. Happy.
I’m the worst. Maybe I need some lesson from you. Let’s go camping and play!
Oh totally! Let’s go camping and we can have a 3-day Monopoly standoff!
Love it! I also grew up in a hard core Monopoly family…I don’t think it warped me too terribly. My dad would actually start hiding money throughout the game and then just about the time I would think I was winning – he would put hotels on all of his properties.
Lauren,
What a funny dad! My parents totally let us win, but I show no mercy with my kids.
Made me laugh outloud! We totally ascribe to the beat them/win approach, they’ll learn! And all our kids and grandkids are merciless competitors too.
