About this time of year, when things get really cold, I start spending a lot of time in the bath. A lot of time.
At some point last winter, I realized I feel much better if I add Epsom Salt to the water every time I hop in the bath. It’s a wonderful anti-inflammatory, in addition to having a whole host of other benefits. Plus, it’s super cheap; I’ve been buying it in bulk at the dollar store.
Here’s what you need for this project:
4 Tablespoons Baking Soda
This is a really fun thing to do with your kids, especially if you love ending up with salt all over your kitchen floor. No seriously though, the kids love helping me with this.
Grab a clean bowl; this is where you’ll do all the mixing.
Have one of your monkeys measure out the salt {monkeys = children}, it’s a great teaching moment; you’ll want to pour 2 cups into the bowl.
Now add your Baking Soda. I know it sounds weird but this stuff really softens your skin and if you add enough it makes the bath a little fizzy.
Now it’s time to add the Essential Oil. Pick a scent you can live with because essential oils are really strong and you’ll want to love the smell in your bath. Add about 6-8 drops. I added way more than that and it was too much, I had to dilute the mix with more salt.
I used essential oils from Laundry Tree, they worked just fine.
Now mix that in really well. Your nose hairs might start to tingle a bit but don’t worry, that’s normal.
Here’s my monkey mixing; it’s his favorite part.
Now this is the most important part of all the im
portant parts. Put your bath salts in a cute jar so you can display it on your counter without embarrassment. I got this at my local big box for $6, and isn’t it cute?
Ta-da!
Now shoo, go take a hot bath. It always helps me to read a trashy magazine like People while soaking, it ups the happy factor by 10.
Sooo cute but where did you get the little scoop?
Excited to try this! I need a good soak.
Emily,
I got it from another salt scrub I got from a store, but I imagine you could find something like that at Michaels or Roberts craft stores. Isn't it adorable?
Megan,
You'll feel amazing after I promise.
Mamma,
Thank you! You really should try this one, it's easy and good for you. Win, win.
You are always filled with great ideas. Love this!
Krista,
You're welcome! I aim to please. :)
I just want to thank you for posting every day. I've noticed most bloggers take the weekend off, but I know I can always count on you to have a little something for me to read on the weekends! Loving the bath salts!

I need to make some of these, and then I need to make myself get in the bathtub! Haven't had a good soak in a LONG time…. my garden tub is going to waste!
BTW, if I wanted to color it, could I? About how many drops of color do you think would be needed?
