Like so many others, I adore autumn time. Everything about it; so many lovely things to embrace. I don’t, however, adore Halloween. It’s ok, and it’s a fun time for kids, but so much about it is kitschy and obnoxious. And have you seen the gobs and gobs of decorations in stores and catalogs? Lots of very adorable and expensive things, but also some kooky stuff. It’s a big deal, commercially. I for one prefer to festoon my home for the season, rather than just the holiday. With a little help from Mother nature, voila! A perfectly festive little home withminimal cost, minimal effort and minimal mess.

We grew pumpkins in our garden this year. 3 plants yielded about 15 pumpkins which now adorn my front porch and various corners of my home. A couple for carving, a few for spray-painting gold and bronze for a little sophistication.

I visited the local craft store and spent a whopping $4 on gorgeous autumn colored paper in pretty patterns. 30 minutes of cutting and hole punching later, I have 2 fun paper bunting banners that really liven the place up. They’ll be a fun accent to the ginormous (50 guests!) baby shower I’m hosting next month, too.

I did cave and indulge in a couple Halloween-ish elements for my toddler.

Like this guy, named Joe, who serves as a night-light after bedtime stories. My son was thrilled. $3, about 4 inches high. At Target. “He’s not scary Mommy, he’s happy.”

I love all your decorations! Especially love the silver frame on your side table.
Keeping it simple is always the best! Good Job! I like the swag
I love them! The wreath is beautiful!
Sarah: i found that wreath at a local discount home store (down east home) about 7 years ago. It came from Martha Stewart and I paid $7 for it. I'm glad you like it!
oouuhhh! so lovely! Love your banner. I'm getting ready to post some of my favorite decorations on my blog too! (though I am leaning to the kitchy Halloween DIY) :)
