weekend in the woods.

After Thanksgiving next to the ocean we went up the mountain to Big Bear to spend a couple of days with Dziadek {our Polish grandfather} at his tiny tiny cabin in the woods.

And when I say tiny, I mean 400 square feet. For 5 people. The kids love it, they go bananas for the cabin in the woods. Because Dziadek does things like teach them how he feeds squirrels walnuts out of the palm of his hand.

Dziadek is genetically responsible for the amount of energy both boys in my life possess, so he has no qualms hiking up and down hills in the snow to find just the right sledding hill for Charming.

I passed the time dressing Viktor up in the clothing his mother had picked out for him. It brought me endless joy to see Viktor strut his stuff in a whale sweatshirt and undersized Italian track pants. Happiness personified.

But when it looks like this outside,

and you’re trapped inside with 4 other human beings there’s bound to be some of this:

which Precocious felt the need to document for posterity’s sake:

I spent a lot of time sleeping. And I watched Horatio Hornblower. Twice.

There are worse ways to spend 48 hours without internet or cell service. I can’t think of any just now, but give me a few days to get back on my game and I’ll come up with something.

Honestly, your time at Polish Grandpa's cabin sounds really fabulous! He's adorable, btw! How fun for you guys to run away from the world. And now it's time to get back to life —- ugg.

  2. Azúcar :

This is why I always carry a book on vacation. Or two.

Call me Precocious if you must, but I'd spend 48 hours with my nose in a book, no problem.

  3. vanessa :

Holy Crap I cannot stop laughing! I had a sweatshirt in middle school with orcas and dolpins onit too! Oh we all did come on :)

  4. Emily :

I don't know how you did it but you survived! Love Viktor's outfit–that made my day!

  5. TM_Erin :

You are a brave woman…posting such a HAWT pict of Viktor. Aren't you worried about the internet floozies stealin' your man?

Those orca lovin' internet floozies. Watch your back.

  6. sania :

    The cabin looks so cute!

  7. thatgirlblogs :

    so cute from the outside…
    so claustrophobic on the inside…

perfect recipe for cuddling in the snow.

  8. mskaz :

This post cracked me up a ton!!

Idyllic… aside from that sweater. Shudder.

  10. Marie {Make and Takes} :

    Quinn,

The cabin is 400 sq. ft. I have to go to a happy place in my head when we stay there. But, it is rather cozy.

    Azucar,

Try a bag full. I just didn't feel like reading.

I will call you Precocious, any day of the week. Mine took several and finished about 1 a day.

    Vanessa,

I STILL have a t-shirt with Orcas in my closet. Be still my heart.

    Emily,

I had the Shorebreak in my sights, it helped. :)

    Sania,

It is cute. Very very tiny and cute!

    TM Erin,

I worried about that initially when I posted the photo, but I figured it was worth the risk. No one would find this cabin if they came looking for my hot man. NO ONE.

    thatgirlblogs,

It's amazing though, the healing properties of Horatio Hornblower. That man is, {ahem} a natural, {ahem} leader. That's the word I was looking for.

    mskaz,

Glad someone benefited from my holiday pain. I mean fun! I mean fun!

    Naomi,

You didn't even see the half of what I pulled out of the Glad bags. FUN!

    Make and Takes,

Oh, it was fun alright. For VIKTOR. ;)

    MarySquare,

There are more where that came from if you need some bribery. Just saying.
