My dear friend Helen Jane asked me some wedding fashion questions today, and I couldn’t help her without going full on inspiration board.
It’s just the way my brain works – I’m so so super visual.
Anyway, Helen Jane’s questions basically surrounded the topic of what constitutes appropriate bridesmaid wedding fashion. It’s tricky. You get invited to a friend’s wedding and all of a sudden there are 10 events over the course of the weekend, and what on earth are you supposed to wear?
The first outfit, in the photo above, is for a classy night out, a bachelorette party with the bridal party, your absolute closest girls, at a nice swanky restaurant. No gross stuff, just classy.
These next two outfits are for a co-ed bridal shower.
I personally don’t see the need for a woman to wear a skirt just because there are some dudes around, but that’s just me. There are plenty of trousers {I just sounded like my grandmother right there} high waisted, slim, etc. that get the job done beautifully. The same goes for jeans; those babies can absolutely get sassed right up. The jeans in the inspiration board are slim fitting and dark which make them look fancy, the absolute opposite of what Miley Cyrus is trying to accomplish right now.
— I wonder what you think of bridesmaid fashion. Do you think cocktail dresses are mandatory, or do you wing it? —
I love these looks for bridesmaids but I have another question for you. I’m a 47 year old mother of the groom and I need fashion help! What do I wear to the showers and for the love! What do I wear to the wedding? It’s at a mansion in the country and the ceremony will be outside. Everything seems frumpy or not dressy enough. The wedding colors are cream, peach and steel grey and I look better in jewel tones. What’s a young MOG to do? I would love your thoughts!
I’d wear something classic and chic for the showers. Trousers and heels, or wedges, silk tunic with a fun blazer or a tunic with dark jeans and heels or ballet flats. For the wedding don’t wear a floral “mother of the groom” outfit, wear steel grey with really fun jewel tone shoes and accessories. A bright necklace would be amazing with steel grey. Good luck, you’ll look amazing!
Thanks Allison! I’ll be on the lookout!
Love it!
You’re a styling wizardstress — without the robes and pointy hat.
Thanks so much!
No, you!
That’s it. I am starting to use the word trousers. Love it.
Stacia, please do. I’m incorporating it into my vocab permanent like.
