How I like to wear jeans: dress it up

Last week I shared how I like to wear jeans: everyday look and now all I want to do is go shopping and buy 10 more tunics for summer.

Stay focused Allison, stay focused.

Today I’m not talking about tunics at all, or an everyday look.  Today I’m talking about how I dress jeans up to look fancy.  Not too fancy though, I’m too tired for that kind of business.

A couple of things really make for a “dressy” denim outfit:

  • a clean, close cut, tailored pair of jeans
  • a darker wash
  • heels

Loose, boyfriend type jeans {of which I’m a huge fan – I totally wear them all summer long} automatically make an outfit more casual.  The right cut, which is to say, a hemmed streamlined pair of jeans, automatically make the jeans look more, uh, professional.  As does a pair of jeans in a dark wash.  Razored, faded, whiskered jeans aren’t dressy.  Period.

Once you have the right pair of jeans, the right accessories will turn them into a sexy sophisticated outfit to wear out on the town.

For me, a crisp white button down shirt elevates a pair of jeans into dressy category.  I don’t really wear white button down shirts very often in my day-to-day life, so pairing one with a dark pair of jeans feels pretty dressy.

It’s a really classic look, actually.

Add some nice jewelry, a pair of heels and a crisp blazer, and you’re almost ready for Super Tuesday.  Because you really need to dress up for Super Tuesday.  See what I did?  I totally made a funny there.

Actually this kind of dressy outfit makes me want to head to a nice-ish restaurant with my husband.  Maybe take in an evening of theater, stroll the cobbled streets of a lamp-lit foreign city.

That’s a little bit of wishful thinking right there.  I haven’t been on a proper date with my husband in months and months and months.  Usually we just hit the gym together, sipping protein shakes on side-by-side elliptical machines.

Super romantic, with no need for fancy jeans.  *sigh*

It’s all good.  But if you’re going on a date, or somewhere fancier than the cardio corner at the gym, I put together a dressy jean outfit for you to think about.

Where would you wear dressy jeans?  Lunch date, work, to see a play?  I’m very curious.

Thank you! It’s my favorite, honestly.

    Hi Allison!

I’d wear jeans 365 days a year if I could. Today it’s old skinnies with a neon pink tee, a grey blazer, and gold Kate Spade bow flats from the clearance rack at Marshall’s.

    • Allison :

I can totally see you in this outfit, and in my mind’s eye you look like a stone cold fox.

  2. Angie :

Thank you so much. Cole Marshall from Pacing the Panic room cut it. I adore it.

  5. Monica :

Don’t act like we won’t notice your fabulous nails because I totally did. :) I must know the color, please.

    • Allison :

Isn’t the color to die for? I have no idea what it is because it’s a shellac – whatever the salon had the day I showed up. It’s A-MA-ZING!

  6. Kelleyn :

I checked out their website the other day, and was totally impressed by how you can plug in a few things and it will tell you what cut of jean would work best for you. So cool. Love how your nails match your necklace. You look fantastic!

    • Allison :

Thank you mucho. I think it’s really cool too, everyone has such different body types so I like that it’s being addressed.

  7. Sarah :

Oooooh ooh! This is my favorite outfit for just about everything. I swap out the shoes, from sexy heels, to cowboy boots, a summery wedge to a leather flip-flop. You could say it is the most perfect out fit, ever.
And do you ever look fabulous in it, wow!
    Love love love your hair!

    • Allison :

Oh I do love good pair of jeans with cowboy boots. Love.

      • Sarah :

when I was trying to figure out outfits for my new “office” job, I repeatedly asked my family “are you SURE i can’t wear my cowboy boots?”
turns out they were wrong, I do atleast once a week :)

  8. Erica :

Pretty Lady, you need a proper date! Seriously, I would wear this outfit to meet my husband for lunch, which is where we’ve squeezed in our dates recently. We’re going to start a weekly!! date night next week.

    • Allison :

I do need a proper date! Badly. Lunch is always a good idea, but I need a solid 4-hour chunk of no kids, no work, no phones, just fun night. My parents had a date night every single Friday growing up. Without fail, they left the house at 6:00 pm. It was probably salvation to my mom.

  9. Adventures In Babywearing :

I’d probably wear them anywhere! Date night (sushi!), church, etc!

    Steph

    • Allison :

Oh man Steph, I wish jeans were cool at my church. My kids would die of happy.

  10. Widad :

I love this look! It’s time for me to go jeans shopping. I wonder if the Levi’s shop carries jeans for curves here in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia). I always pass by Levi’s at the mall, I think it’s time to step inside.
