{This is Cicada, still, guest blogging for Petit Elefant. I suppose I could have done an introduction, but I didn’t really know what to say about myself except that I’m a newlywed and the world of motherhood seems a little beyond me right now as I’m still adjusting to having a family of two. We’ll try to expand some time next year.}
My husband is a collector. Movies, music, old cameras, video equipment, and iPods just to name a few things. It’s endearing, except for when I see his whole body tense up at the suggestion that we purge ourselves of four of our five TVs.
For the most part, I’m grateful for his collections, especially as regards “the kids.” For years now, he’s been collecting every Disney animated film. “You know. For the kids.” This was before he met me. Before he was dating anyone. And after he started to give up any hope that he’d ever marry or spawn. In addition to a full collection of Disney movies, he has all the Muppet movies and seasons that have been released so far. {I’m verifying this with him now, and he adds: “Plus the Time Life series, which is a smattering of episodes.} You know. For the kids.
I’m grateful to have entertainment on hand that we can enjoy along with our future progeny. I don’t want to give offense, but I’ll take the Muppets over Barney every day of the week.

My brother, who has a 19-month-old son and a to-be-born-at-any-minute daughter also suggested Dan Zanes and Yo Gabba Gabba! as great entertainment options for both children and adults.
Dan Zanes was a former member of The Del Fuegos. He currently makes music for families.

Yo Gabba Gabba! is a television show created by a member of the Aquabats. I haven’t seen it, so I don’t really know what I’m recommending, but having seen this video guest starring Elijah Woods, I am pretty sure it’s safe to say that I could enjoy this program with my children. It may take a special sense of humor. Who knows? You may find it at least worth a try.

What shows, songs, or artists do you enjoy watching with your children?
It’s funny seeing that Yo Gabba Gabba clip in Spanish. I’ve seen it before and I liked it. The whole show is pretty funky. But my brother and his wife can’t stand it.
I have a 16 month old who really enjoys some of the Baby Einstein Series…we usually watch it with him to reinforce the “learning.” I recently saw my first episode of Little Einsteins and found it rather clever, and also a Dan Zanes clip which seemed good, too. I have a low threshold for most kids shows. Is Sesame Street still around? BTW: I think you and I have the same hubby! ;)
Little Miss in in love with the new PBS series, “Super Why.” She makes me be AlphaPig, and I have to dance while pretending to have cloven hooves.
Also, do you think you can teach us how to make sleeveless t-shirts out of bathmats, because that mahnahmahnah guy looks AWESOME!
That’s one of my favorite Muppet memories. Thanks!
I surveyed my two kids on all three clips. The two-year-old loved Yo Gabba Gabba but said he liked the Muppets better. He didn’t want to watch Dan Zane at all (I liked him).
The 4-year-old liked Dan Zane OK, really liked Yo Gabba Gabba but said that the Muppets were her favorite because they were “pink AND silly”. So I guess you can’t mess with greatness.
Their other favorites (and mine) are Charlie and Lola, Handy Manny, and the Happy Monster Band. Lola is by far the best.
We keep coming back here to watch the Muppets and Yo Gabba Gabba. That Elijah Wood can DANCE!
Also, we have discovered the “Party In My Tummy” clip, also by Yo Gabba Gabba, and it cracks us up! My 11 year old is singing the song right now as he eats a sandwich. So yummy! So yummy!
Thanks, again!
This is totally belated, but mine like Laurie Berkner, the ‘Yip yip’ aliens from sesame street on You tube, and the sony bravia commercials. : )
