hotel rex, san francisco.

When I went to California last week I stayed two nights with the Eat. Blog. Run. team in Sunnyvale, California at Country Inns & Suites. Then my last night I stayed at a Joie de Vivre hotel in San Francisco.

I have a bit of a thing for Joie de Vivre hotels. Remember The Shorebreak Hotel in Huntington Beach, California? And the Americania in San Francisco?

They’re delightful.

Hotel Rex is a literary hotel. Meaning, it’s designed to feel like a 1920’s or 1930’s hotel, filled with old literature and period art. I absolutely loved it. It’s an old building, so the 1920’s decor works seamlessly.

This is the lobby and bar, where they serve complimentary glasses of wine every night.

My room was wonderful. It had a private living room with its own bathroom. And a door that closed. That sort of thing would come in really handy with kids.

Not that I’d ever close my kids into another room and lock the door. Bwa haaa haaaa haaa.

Of course I would.

I’m not even lying when I tell you this is only the second time I’ve slept all alone in a hotel room. It was magnificent and I plan to do it again very soon.

Flat-screen T.V. on the wall above the desk? Thank you very much, don’t mind if I do. Since we don’t have a T.V. right now, I spent some time catching up on the Kardashians. I still don’t understand the appeal but I get sucked in every time.

Once I had my fill of E! I changed into the hotel bathrobe and slippers {cute!} I took an embarrassing photo of myself to send as encouragement on twitter to the Eat. Blog. Run. team.

It’s the small sacrifices that make a difference you know.

Hotel Rex is a great hotel, not a ton of money {which is really sayi
ng something in San Francisco!}, and is in the heart of Union Square. Perfect-o.

Thanks Hotel Rex, hope to see you again soon!

Are you kidding? The Rex looks fantastic. There is nothing quite as delightful as being able to sleep in nice hotel room alone (at least when you're a mom.)

I have family in San Fran, so I'm totally going to check out the Rex when I hit the town again. Thanks for the tip!

  2. Naomi :

    So swanky! Love it.

    Azucar,

You'd go bananas for this place. Very hip.

    Kami,

Ha! It's me doing a *Marie* face. She always whips out the jazz hands so I had to one-up her!

  6. Marie {Make and Takes} :

That is a cool looking hotel. Super bummed I had to run the race and miss out on that!

And LOVE your "marie" photo! You're rockin' those jazz hands!

  7. Amanda K :

Gotta admit, I was pretty sure I read "Hotel SEX" not Hotel Rex in the title.

Oops. My husband obviously needs to stop studying so much.

  8. Petit Elefant :

    Amanda K,

You just made me snort. Out loud.

  9. Hotel Rex :
