For some time we’ve had a list of green living projects to do, and this sumer we checked two off the list: a successful vegetable garden an outdoor clothesline. The garden was smooth sailing. We started out with some fail-safe plants: carrots, lettuce, tomatoes, and pole peas, all of which produced a bountiful crop throughout the summer. Next year we’ll add even more to the garden; I’m thinking broccoli, cauliflower, rhubarb, cucumbers. Any other ideas? Crispy. Crunchy. Deliciousness. Fresh. Juicy….

cabinet snooping by guest mom alma.
Mike and I felt we deserved a trip to IKEA last week to celebrate the news that we’re having a baby boy. Really, any reason is a good reason to go to IKEA. Among our purchases was this medicine cabinet. I’m tired of looking through every drawer of every bathroom when I need an Advil or a band-aid. cute shoes for kids.
Clara, $40 Am I the last mom on the block to know about the adorable shoes from See Kai Run? I’m now singing their praises. It seems that toddler shoes readily available on the market (especially for boys) are too often bulky and without character. Not these from See Kai Run, which are obviously designed by a mom with an eye for style, function and comfort. All shoes are made of leather and are sturdy yet flexible, blessedly shoe-lace free…

safe wooden teethers.
Look at these cool teething toys from the etsy shop Little Alouette. They’re made from Maple wood so they’re 100% natural for your baby to chew on, and the teethers are filled with brown rice to keep your little one entertained while they munch. I always gave my babies frozen bagels, which worked great until they bit off chunks of bagels and tried to choke themselves. Wood is better, much better. Maple Waldorf Teether/Rattle. $14. {via littlealouette}. Made with love…

bare naked ladies album for kids.
I’ve been a fan of the Bare Naked Ladies for a long time. The band, of course. Not actual naked ladies. Upbeat tunes, clean and witty lyrics, music with great personality in general. The talented band members are now parents and, inspired by their own offspring, have created a CD for kids. Titled Snacktime, some of the songs are about food, like raisins, but there are others about wonderful things like pollywogs and wishes. Classic BNL cleverness, without that saccharine…
