Hello 2017 + welcome back, friends!
How are you? How were your holidays? I’m jumping right back in after two weeks of a self-mandated break, and I’ll be real honest: things are bleak over here. I don’t want to be back at work. Does anyone ever want to be back at work? I feel especially so today. Like a kid on the first day of school after a long summer vacation who’d rather be at the pool, or wasting time starting up at the sky with a matinee ticket in their pocket and miles of free time ahead.
Part of the problem with coming back to work and life, (and menu plans and swim team practice, and school and schedules, and homework and bedtime) is that real life is pretty exhausting. The other part of the problem is that Christmas this year was extra magical. I said no to everything but me and mine. I didn’t buy gifts for anyone but my husband and kids. Nothing extra anywhere; no stressful obligations within sight. And to top if all off, we woke up on Christmas morning to a foot and a half of heavy, white, beautiful snow. It was just perfect.
We hunkered down at home as a family for the whole vacation to eat delicious food, play board games, watch movies, and go sledding. Zero responsibilities. No alarm clocks. No bedtimes. No appointments or bedtimes or book reports or tests or swim meets or meetings. Just us.
And now that I’m home alone on a very cold, very grey January day waiting for the washing machine repair man, it’s Bleaksville city and I’d like to go home.
What about you? How were your holidays? Did you see family? Eat your weight in chocolate? Carol in the snow? Ring in the new year in a foreign land with your toes in the sand? (I didn’t even mean to rhyme there!) Wear pajamas 10 days in a row? Whatever you did, I’d sure love to hear about it. It will make me feel a little bit more awesome about the washing machine repair man coming to visit today.
Also, HAPPY NEW YEAR and hello 2017!
