The 2011 blog recap

I have years where I set resolutions, and I have years where I tell resolutions to suck it, and this year is the former.  At heart I’m a goal setter, an organizer, a lover of things clean and fresh.  I can’t wait to sit down and fully detail what I’d love to make happen in 2012. I checked a lot of things off my Life List in 2011, and I plan to do even more in 2012. But let’s start…

Happy new year 2012

happy new year

Happy new year!  It’s 2012 and we’re all still alive! Barely. How are you feeling today?  I’m bleary eyed and ready to head back to bed, but that’s not really helping anyone is it? I hope your holidays were wonderful.  Mine were.  They were filled with marathons of Masterpiece Theater and chai lattes, sleeping in and snuggling with my family, fancy dinners with real china, and a few nights with dear friends. The holidays couldn’t have been better. I told…

How To Recycle Almost Anything

how to recycle anything

You’re so smart, you’ve already figured out how to recycle almost anything; I read all through your comments on my last recycling post how to make less trash and recycle more and, you guys.  Come on. Seriously, I was so impressed. I’m adopting so many of your recycling suggestions into my life, and just to make sure everyone gets to see what brilliant suggestions you had for recycling everything in your life, I’m going to share them below along with…

back to school paper organization

organizing paper

I love back to school.  I love the school supplies, I love that my kids are so tired they fall into bed at 8:00 pm, I love my children’s teachers, I love that I have all day to work alone. What I don’t love so much?  All the !%#$ paper that comes with it. There’s an obscene amount of paper coming home every day, and it’s enough to overwhelm my entire household.  So here’s what I do to tame the…

How To Clean Hard Water Stains

If you haven’t found Pinterest yet, we need to have a little talk.  From me to you, it’s time to get on that train.  Pinterest is like all your inspiration boards in one place, plus everyone else’s inspiration boards, and you can pin to your heart’s content. It’s amazing. Anyway. I found this tip on Pinterest, tried it, and loved it.  You can use lemonade flavored Kool-Aid to remove lime stains {hard water stains} from your dishwasher. What what? You…

helpful laundry tip

— This is a re-posting of an article from last Summer’s archives.  While I’m away in Europe I thought I’d give you a tour of my blog.  I’ve got years of content to delve into and plenty of fun content to keep you entertained while I’m away. — My new washer and dryer from Frigidaire showed up a couple of weeks ago, and we’re having a good time getting to know each other. I’d say we’ll probably be exchanging promise…

How To Organize Your Closet Step 2

Last week I showed you my re-organized, color coded closet.  I love it.  I’m staying on top of the organization and it makes me feel super happy. The next step in my closet organization was getting my shoes in order.  Shoes just seem to multiply by themselves, there’s no help for it.  And frankly, I’m at the age where my shoe size is the only thing that remains constant and I don’t want to get rid of my investments.  They’re…

how to organize your closet step 1

organize your closet

Over the last year my closet has been in a state of deep decline.  Clothes have been shoved deeper and deeper into the recesses of space, and sadly instead of solving the problem, I actually went out and bought more hangers to accommodate my growth. Mistake #1. Over the course of the last week I got Spring Fever, but when I couldn’t find any warm weather clothes in my closet to garden outside I decided it was time to take…

My Laundry Room is….

front loading washer and dryer

A complete disaster.  If yours isn’t, I’m not sure we can be friends anymore. This, despite the fact that I painted a completely adorable red bench from D.I. a beautiful bright red to give the kids a place to remove their shoes.  Despite the great coat rack from IKEA for the school backpacks.  Despite the new front loading washer and dryer which take up so little space it’s practically criminal.  Despite the white board on the wall from Costco that…
