Author Meg Cabot

I have, over the years, expressed my deeply seated love for author Meg Cabot.  In fact, having lunch with Meg Cabot is #91 on my Life List.  I kind of adore her.

I picked up her first book a handful of years ago in a Costco.  I was passing the books when my eye rested on a book titled ‘Size 12 is Not Fat‘ and I was like ‘say it sister!‘.

I’m a size 12, and I most certainly am. not. fat. {Don’t get me started}

Once I’d devoured that, I moved right on to the library of books she’s written over the years.  She has to write them in her sleep, in the tub, on a bus, on a train, in a boat in the rain.  Sorry, Dr. Seuss creeping in.

Meg’s pretty adept at this whole writing business.  Total thus far?  61 novels.

She’s a little older than I am, so that’s quite a few in her short life.  In fact, when I interviewed Meg last week {it was like talking to an old girlfriend on the phone, seriously.  she’s wonderful} and asked her about how she writes so fast she was like, “Oh, you know, it’s the one thing I’m good at so that’s why I write”.  Well, some of us would like to be so good at writing that we end up on the New York Times bestseller list several times in a row.

Meg has a huge following, {many of which are younger girls} who started requesting age appropriate books a few years ago, and being Meg, she obliged.

There’s now an entire series of books by Meg Cabot called: Allie Finkle’s Rules for Girls.  The series outlines a set of rules {which should be written and handed out to little girls in real life around the age of 10} Allie Finkle writes for herself to get through the tender years of elementary school.

Elementary School can be rough, friends.  Rough.

Meg just finished writing book 6 in the Allie Finkle series, and in celebration, I’m giving away the whole set of books.

If you have a girl on your holiday gift list, these books are for you.

Hello there! I'm Allison Czarnecki, founder + editor of Petit Elefant, a blog all about style on a budget for every part of your life: style / home / travel / family. I do a lot of how-to beauty + style tutorials, travel posts, easy recipes, home remodel projects, and cool DIY crafts you totally want to try. I'm super happily married (to a hot Polish immigrant) and am the mother of two kids, a daughter and son, all of whom are featured here on the regular. We live in the country but we're a little bit rock + roll. Welcome!

  1. Andria :

I have two nieces within one family that would adore these.

  2. Beth :

A precious young girl who someday will be officially my daughter… but until adoption finally works out, we’re just glad to have each other.

  3. Christine :

I have 3 little girls, the oldest is in the third grade. Holy cow those kids can be rough! I live Meg’s books and would love my Abby to read a series she could connect with.

  4. Payal :

My 13-year old niece would love these!

  5. Julianna :

My sweet 7 year-old niece Maddie… who I know would someday share them with my dear 5 year-old daughter Amelia.

  6. Carey M :

My twin girls…although a bit young at 4 they love to read and I am doing the best I can to raise them to be strong, independant women who are proud of all that they are.

  7. Michelle :

I have no children (yet) but I would LOVE to have these to add to my growing children’s book collection for my classroom! I have tons of picture books but I’m lacking in chapter books.

  8. the emily :

How cool! My 10-year-old niece Alexis would love these books, and I mean L.O.V.E. Capitals with periods interspersed? That’s a lot of love right there.

  9. Emily :

I would give it to my oldest for her to read first, and then let her pass it on to the next girl in line. I’m sure both of them would love the series!

  10. Lisa Henderson :

I’m glad to know that I’m not the only adult that loves her books! I’d give these books to my goddaughter. Thanks for the chance to win!

  11. Amanda :

My niece would love these! Of course, I would read them first *just to check them out* Can’t be too sure these days, so I’d do my Auntly duty and uhhh, preview them. :)

  12. Jamie S :

The books would totally go to my niece!

I’m a HUGE Meg fan – have been for years. A few years ago I worked in the corporate offices of a giant coffee company (think green.) We had an author series where authors of newly released books would come and give readings and sign autographs – Meg came and I was in HEAVEN! She was funny and sweet and just what I imagined. She would have totally been the highlight of my career there – except one day Bono showed up…..

  13. mskaz :

My soon-to-be 10 year old daughter who is a HUGE reader would love this set!

  14. ~j. :

Here’s the thing: li’l ~j. would get the books first, even though she’s 11 & 1/2 and in her last year of elementary school — I’m certain the gems learned in the books still apply. After she’s devoured the books, they’d immediately go to Curly, who is 9. She will most certainly read them repeatedly, after which Superstar will get her turn (currently: 6 & 1/2, she still has time). And there’s more where THAT came from.

  15. Barb @ getupandplay :

My 4 year old niece would get them with “dates” for us to read them together.

  16. Andrea Cote :

I have loved Meg Cabot since I first read The Princess Diaries when I was 11 years old!! I have 2 wonderful girls in my life, my parent’s best friends little girls. They’re the little sisters I never got, and I hope, at 21, I’m the older sister they sometimes need. Those books would be given to them, but I promise I’d read them too :-)

  17. Mia :

I would love these for my daughter Zoey. She devours books!

  18. Raquel :

    My 10 year old daughter.

  19. Laurin :

I would love to have these for my eight-year-old, Erin!

  20. Tami Warner :

My daughter would LOVE this! Hint, hint!!

  21. Katie :

I have a younger sister, 11, who would ADORE them :) Also another sister, 8, who would want to read them too.

  22. wendy :

just what i need, another author to fall in love with! :) thanks for the tip. off to find some of her books at the library, um, do you have a suggestion as to where to start?

i think my girls would enjoy her younger books. one is on the cusp of 12 and the other is 7. thanks for the chance!

  23. Natalie :

I would LOVE to give these to some of the girls in my class…. my students this year (well, mainly my girls) are SO different from my Spanish Fork kids. They are only casually interested in reading if it has to do with (1) being popular or (2) Justin Beiber. Most of them don’t have any books at home and don’t really want any books either. I think they might actually get into reading if I put these in front of them. I just might have to buy them if I don’t “win” them!

  24. Emily :

Perfect for my brother’s daughter! Who could pass them along to my daughter in a few years.

  25. Kristen :

With 3 daughters in our family, I’m sure these books would be put to good use. My oldest is an avid reader, the 2nd needs a little (okay, A LOT) of encouragement and the 3rd has just begun her lifetime of reading.

  26. stacy :

My daughter Kennedy would love this. And I would love to give it to her. I heart giving books!

  27. Regina :

I think I would give them to a friend of mine who is 8 years old and has already started that awkward stage of elementary/junior high. They seem to be starting earlier and earlier.

    Merry Christmas!

  28. girlsmama :

I have four, yes four, daughters! My oldest is ten and a voracious reader. These books would be well loved in my home!

  29. Heidi E :

My wonderfully smart, and lovely niece Avery. She literally gets in trouble for sneaking off and locking herself in the bathroom so she can read ’till her little hearts content. She is the oldest with six younger brothers. I would love to give them to her as she can NEVER get enough reading material. Although, my brother might not like that very much. Oh well, that’s what Aunt’s are for. Right?

  30. Elizabeth :

I would give them to my sweet neice maddy. She is smart and overlooked for her younger siblings. She is 10 and embarking on the beginning of what I like to refer to as a The Insane Years. That would be my top pick!!

  31. Laura Ferry-Jimenez :

my super-adorable and smart niece, Sophia. love her! :)

    • Allison :

Would you PLEASE read them already?!!! If you’re on the cover you have to read the books lady.

      • kage :

ok…putting it on my 2011 list. your interview with her was fun….

  32. Lisa Nolen :

I would give them to my 11 year old daughter who would love them, pet them and feed them!!! :o)

  33. Sarah K :

I would love to give this series to my young sister, I don’t think she realizes that almost all girls her age her age have such a rough time in school and starting out in, as Elizabeth above put it, “The Insane Years.”

  34. Emily :

I know this darling little girl, well…she is 11…so she isn’t really little anymore…but she is so sweet and is starting to grow up…but she is still a little girl deep down who loves to play with dolls and dressup. DId I mention that she is a total bookworm too? She loves to read…and that is why I consider this little girl my friend…we are book readers together…in fact she borrows a lot of the books I have at home.
ANYWAY…I know she would love these books…I would love to give them to her.

  35. Jennie Spear :

My 9 year old has read one of the Allie Finkle books and really liked it. The series would be great. Meg Cabot totally rocks! I’m jealous you got to interview her :)

  36. Melissa :

These would be for my daughter who loves book and who reads EVERYTHING. Luckily she is a re-reader so a set of books will be loved over and over again.

  37. Robyn :

I think my 10-yr-old daughter would dig these books.

  38. Shari (fruitloopgirl) :

My 6 year old daughter would love to read this together with me. =)

This would be perfect for my almost 9yo. Thank you!

  44. DeeDee :

My niece’s 10th birthday is on the 21st. She is at a really tough age to buy for and I think these would be perfect! In fact, if I don’t win them I’m buying them anyway for her!

  45. Kimm :

I happen to have 2 little girls that would love these books. Never too early to get them started on Meg!! :)

My Daughter Sam who is 9 1/2 and in fourth grade. She really needs some rules!

  47. Sarah :

Ohh I would love to give these to my little Abie, who is not so little. I am always looking for great things for her to read.

  48. nicol :

My almost 10 year old and I would love this,,,is it weird that I read all the books she reads?

  49. Angela =^) :

My friend just told me about this blog last night. How have you NOT been in my life until now??? And, I’ve been ’round this egg timer a few times. Then I’m reading this post going, “Holy freaking cow, these books sound so good. Brit MUST have them. But we’re already at our Christmas budget. What am I gonna do???” Then I see a giveaway? My language. It’s spoken here.

My just-turned-10-year-old daughter, Brittney, would adore these. She’s recently reached that stage where she wants to read, but so many books have content that’s a tad mature or a tad little-girlish. (Know what I mean?) These look specTACular. I’m crossing my fingers and legs and eyes that I win. (Because I want to cross more than one, but if you cross two that cancels it out. So, we go to three… which may prove that I need to read these books, also.) =^)

    • Allison :

Angela, how have you not been in MY life before now? :)

  50. AmandaSue :

I would give these to my lovely daughter who I think would enjoy reading them, and then she can pass them on to her cousin afterwards!

my wonderful almost 11 year old niece

  52. Sarah :

Thanks so much for the scoop on these books! I have two daughters that would LOVE this series! (12 and 8)

  53. Mrs. G :

I have an 8-year-old niece that would LOVE this. Awesome giveaway.

  54. Lisa Peterson :

Oh my gosh – how have I NEVER heard of these books? If I don’t win I will totally be looking for them on my next scholastic order!
Oh, they would be perfect for my 9 year old.
