My new favorite show for late Summer (and Fall) is officially Outlander. Have you heard the buzz about the widely adored book Outlander being turned into a series? If you haven’t, I’m here for you. I’ve scouted this one out, and by the end, you will be salivating to see the new series.
I was introduced to the Outlander books (there are several, beginning with Outlander) a handful of years ago, by multiple friends. I was down and out with a black eye and separated shoulder after a bad fall while skiing over Christmas, in bed for the rest of the holiday break, and in desperate need of something to read. So I asked for recommendations on the Petit Elefant Facebook page, (thank you to everyone who answers my questions over there!) and was inundated with great book ideas. The one book series that was recommended over and over again was a series called Outlander, written by Diana Gabaldon. I’d never heard of the series, but I had time on my hands, so I went to the library and checked out the first book.
The books are approximately a billion and a half pages each, but the writing is so engaging I ended up reading all of them, over the course of a few months.
You don’t have to read a billionty and one pages though, because an entire series based on the first book (the very best one of them, in my opinion), has been filmed, and the premiere of the first episode is (free!) available to watch on Starz Saturday, August 9th at 9PM EST/PST.
Guys! Outlander is so good! My husband, who is disinterested in historical fiction and/or everything I read, was absolutely riveted by the 1st episode of Outlander. Let me repeat that in case you couldn’t hear me:
My HUSBAND, the dude-est of dudes, loved the first episode. He couldn’t get enough. And as for me, someone who loves the entire series of billionty-page books, am also a fan of binge-watching entire seasons of shows when the opportunity presents itself. My husband and I would’ve happily spent an entire night plowing through the new series, regardless of next-day real-life consequences.
Outlander will definitely be our new favorite show, will it be for you? (the answer is YES) Tune in this Friday and let me know what you think!
P.S. For those of you who’ve read the books, my favorite show character is Claire. Jamie is a close, very close second, but they really nailed Claire, she’s perfect!
P.P.S. If you have a thing for Jamie in the books, you’ll die when you see him moving around onscreen. The accent, the hair, the abs, it’s all fabulous.
